ANANTNAG, JANUARY 23:  ADDC Anantnag, Riyaz Ahmad Sofi today conducted the market inspection to check  the use of polythene.
During the visit, the ADDC was accompanied by Tehsildars, officers of Municipality and Pollution Control Board.
Around one quintal of polythene was seized during the inspection.

Meanwhile, the ADDC called upon the shopkeepers to desist from use of polythene and, if they fail to, necessary action shall be taken against them.

BANDIPORA, JANUARY 19: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora Sajad Hussain today convened a meeting of senior officers of Police, Revenue and Municipal Committees to discuss the measures to check use of polythene in the District.
The DDC sought suggestions from the officers and after threadbare discussion action plan was framed to make Bandipora polythene free.
 The meeting decided that a vigorous public awareness campaign against polythene menace would be initiated across the length and breadth of District. While as Tehsildars and executive officers Municipal Committees were directed to convene meetings at their respective jurisdictions with traders and senior citizens and educate them about ill effects of polythene.
It was also given out that wholesale dealers of polythene will be asked to surrender the polythene stock before police as a goodwill gesture towards society or face the stern action as per the law.
The Assistant Commissioner Revenue has been nominated as a Nodal Officer to check the progress of polythene restriction.
The meeting also decided that the government employees working in Mini Secretariat shall avoid carrying of polythene bags especially in the premises of Mini Secretariat.

The DDC on the occasion stressed on the officers to ensure the sustainable and well-organised mechanism and devise procedures proactively to ensure complete restriction on the use of polythene in the District.

95 kg of polythene bags seized today
SRINAGAR, JANUARY 15: Pursuant to State High Court orders banning use of polythene bags, District Magistrate Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, convened a meeting of all Tehsildars of the district issuing strict instructions for ensuring strict implementation of the order.
The meeting was also attended by ADCs Vikas Kundal and Purnima Mittal and all Sub Divisional Magistrates of the district.
The District Magistrate instructed the Tehsildars to ensure implementation of the High Court order in letter and spirit ensuring seizure of polythene bags wherever found in use. Strict instructions were also issued to all the ward officers of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to ensure implementation order.
Joint Commissioner SMC and concerned Tehsildars have been instructed to submit daily action taken reports along with details of the quantity of seizures made during the day.
To ensure implementation of the order in letter and spirit, special squads for enforcement and seizures have been earmarked in all the Tehsils of the district with overall supervision by concerned Tehsildars.

Some 95 kilograms of polythene bags were seized from various parts of the district today as part of the anti-plastic bag use drive started today.



Srinagar, Aug 1: Concerned over the continued use of polythene in the Kashmir valley despite ban, the Government has asked for a coordinated effort in order to ensure the effective implementation of the ban on polythene and its related products.
             Speaking at a meeting convened to discuss the measures to be taken for ensuring a complete ban on polythene, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today asked for taking the necessary measures for ensuring the effective implementation of the ban on polythene.
      He said that the same is very necessary for maintaining the fragile environment and ecology of our state. He said that the government is ensuring every possible step in order to preserve the eco-system of the state and the execution of the ban of the product would go a long way in supplementing the initiatives of the government.
             Dr Singh said that the Swachta campaign started by the Prime Minister, has been instrumental in ensuring the cleanliness in our rural areas and cities and the onus lies on us to ensure its implementation and the ban on the polymer should also be taken as a part of the program started by our premier.
             He said that we should all collectively synergize our efforts to ensure the implementation of the polythene ban and people should also contribute their bit. He said that they should change their shopping habits by doing away with the tendency of taking their shopping items in polythene bags and explore the possibilities of having other bio-degradable shopping bags.
             Minister for Rural Development Abdul Haq, while speaking on the occasion highlighted the measures undertaken by the rural development department in ensuring that the use of polythene is stopped in the rural areas of the state.
             He said that the necessary instruction has already been conveyed to the district officers and District Panchayat officers to ensure the effective implementation of the ban and necessary headway has been achieved in the endeavor.
      The polythene is freely used in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar despite ban and clear cut directions by the High Court not to allow entry of polythene in Kashmir from outside and its use.UNI
