ASI shot dead by militants in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 28 :  An Assistant Sub-Inspector of the state police was shot dead by militants in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. Official sources told  that an ASI, identified as Abdul Rashid, was shot at and critically wounded by unidentified militants at Mehandi Kadal in Anantnag. Rashid, who received a bullet in his chest, was immediately taken to a local hospital from where he was referred to S K Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar. However, the ASI succumbed to his injuries. They said the gunmen managed to escape, adding a search operation has been launched to nab the culprits. The attack comes two days after a fidayeen attack on District Police Lines in south Kashmir district of Pulwama in which eight security force personnel, four each of police and CRPF, were killed. Three militants who carried out the attack were also killed after 18-hour-long encounter. UNI
