Agartala, Aug 24: The peaceful Twipraland demand day of Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Tripura (IPFT) yesterday was not ended peacefully in the midst of heavy security deployment in Autonomous District Council (ADC) headquarter at Khumulwng of Agartala. While returning from the rally at evening IPFT activists involved in scuffle with CPI(M) cadres on the road and a deputy superintendent of Tripura police fall victim in the violence along with a few others but all of them were stated to be out of danger and undergoing treatment at Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC). Police said DSP Tarun Debbarma was attacked by the violent supporters of IPFT and he received serious head injury. The incident triggered panic among the local people. According to report, after the rally, some IPFT supporters turned violent and assaulted Tarun Debbarma. However, there was no arrest yet. “Organizers were summoned to the police station and asked to undertake an internal inquiry and produce the errant IPFT supporters before the police at the earliest”, said SP (West) Abhijit Saptarshi. However, IPFT leaders alleged that CPI(M) cadres have been assembled near the spot and since morning they were instigating the IPFT supporters in presence of police. A number of occasions, IPFT leaders intervene into the behaviour of the CPI(M) workers and advised them to leave the place. The police on duty was also informed the irritant acts of CPI-M but police were inactive. “When in the evening IPFT supporters dispersing the place a group of CPI(M) cadres on the road abused them and teased in front of police, which made IPFT workers violent. There was no intention to assault policemen but might be DSP Debbarma falls in between the scuffle and got injured. Our workers immediately rescued him from the dark and helped police to shift him hospital,” said IPFT leader Biraj Debbarma. He said that IPFT supporters were showed the example of tolerance for entire day against repeated teasing and instigation by CPI(M) cadres in presence of police and added, “We were extra careful this time to conclude the event peaceful but CPI-M did not allow us to do. We expected the neutral role of police but it unfortunately it was not there rather there was a desperate attempt from all corners to create chaos.” However, CPI(M) leaders denied the allegation and stated IPFT had been doing all violent activities throughout the day in the entire locality. They teased the non-tribals and the local people in communal line but CPI(M) workers did not react until they resort physical attacks. “We have been kept quit for the day when IPFT leaders abused Chief Minister and other leaders of CPI(M) in their speech to terrorise the innocent tribals gathered in the rally. The whole program was conducted in communal line to instigate violence but we did not allow succeeding. At the end, they attacked us without any provocation and left many of us injured besides, DSP,” alleged Mahindra Debbarma, a local CPI(M) leader. While addressing the gathering IPFT General Secretary Mebar Kumar Jamatia charged ruling CPI(M) with conspiring against them to instigate non-tribals against them to achieve political mileage and alleged, leftists always tried to create communal tension whenever IPFT organise any program. Terming Chief Minister Manik Sarkar as anti-tribal, he alleged in 25 years rule of left front government the tribals were the worst sufferer of mal administration and corruption of development fund. Despite getting central sponsorship left fornt government yet to established basic amenities in most of the tribal helmets. “In 21st century when life span has increased in manifold with the blessings of science and technology, tribals of Tripura died due to malaria, tribal mother compelled to sell her child out of poverty, schools cannot run absence of teachers, hospitals are built but no doctor, roads are constructed with central fund but no maintenance, serious shortage of cash flow among tribal families made them unhealthy,” Mr Jamatia alleged. He further stated that Twipraland is the only option left for the tribal to survive in Tripura and central government after their last indefinite blockade took a serious note on the resentment of tribals and shortly the discussion will start.
