"Pakistani Rangers at around 2030 hrs yesterday suddenly started unprovoked heavy firing in Arnia sector and further shelling by mortars,'' a BSF spokesman here today said.
He said later they started firing and shelling in Ramgarh sector of Samba, R S sector targeting of Jammu on BSF duty mounds and BOPs. "BSF gave a calibrated strong reply by equal and more measures,’’ said the spokesman and added that the firing affected more than 20 BOPs area while exchange of fire continued till 0500 hrs this morning.
"Three civilians of village Satowali, R S Pura sustained injuries due to firing,’’ he added.
Earlier on September 21, Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement by firing heavily on forward BSF posts and villages in Arnia sector in which two civilians were injured and around 100 border dwellers were shifted to the safe locations.
On September 16, three civilians were injured as Pakistani Rangers violated the truce and targeted border outposts of BSF and villages in Arnia sector.
According to Army figures, till August 1, there were 285 such violations by the Pakistan Army, while in 2016, the number was significantly less at 228 for the entire year.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh during his recent visit to Jammu said that since 2014, Pakistan every year violates ceasefire agreement for more than 400 times. UNI
