Srinagar, Sep 23: Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid today urged youth to make Kashmir free from violence and drugs.
      Speaking after inaugurating “South Kashmir Sports Festival” today Dr Vaid said
let everyone of us make Kashmir free from guns, grenades and drugs and bring peace and prosperity.
In a tweet J&K police said “Let's free Kashmir from gun, grenade, drugs & bring peace, prosperity and smiles. DGP @spvaid to youth at South Kashmir Sports festival".
      On September 21 two persons, including a student, were killed and over 20 others, including senior engineers, police and CRPF, were injured in a grenade at Tral in Pulwama, by militants who targeted motorcade of senior minister Naeem Akhtar, who escaped unhurt in the attack.
      However, during the “Operation All Out” security forces killed 52 militants, including top commanders in south Kashmir this summer.
  As many as 36 security forces and 42 civilians were also killed in the violence in south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama.
      However, police saved more than 60 youths from joining militancy in south Kashmir this summer.
        Dr Vaid, who was the chief guest at the function, said that as young men and women have dreams, Jammu and Kashmir Police will try to act as a catalyst and help in realizing these dreams. 
        He said that J&K Police in collaboration with other government departments is planning to sponsor the coaching classes so that poor and weak students are helped and provided coaching enabling them to qualify different competitive examinations such as IAS, NET and NEET.
       While referring to the success of the South Kashmir cricketer Parvez Rasool at national level, Dr Vaid said that our boys and girls are very talented and in order to channelize and provide them coaching etc, J&K Police will provide help and assistance.
        DGP said that under Civic Action Programme a number of programmes like Choona Hai Aasman, Run for Fun and Jashan-e-Dal have been conducted and will be conducted in future so that we could harness the capabilities of the youth. 
       He advised the youth not to fall prey to the designs of the elements, who are hell bent to disturb the situation. He said that young men should take care of their health and promised to provide a gym centre to the sports stadium Mattan for the students and youth of the area.
On the occasion MLC Sofi Yousuf announced Rs 2 lacs for the participants and the organizers of the event. He complemented J&K Police for organizing sports festivals in all districts of south Kashmir.
        IGP Kashmir Munir Ahmad Khan, while complementing the team South Kashmir for the successful organization of the festival, highlighted the aims of holding these events. 
       He said that it is an endeavor of police department to reach out to the youth  by providing such opportunities so that they excel in different fields.
        In his welcome address, DIG South Kashmir Range S P Pani said that over the years this  sports festival has become very popular and about 5500 players participated in different events initially at district level and now at range level. He thanked all departments who provided help and assistance in successful orgasation of the festival.
        Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Mohammad Younus Malik, while speaking on this occasion thanked J&K Police for organizing the festival. He highlighted the achievements of district Anantnag in different sports activities at Zonal, state and national level. 
       He said that athletes and players of the district have brought laurels to the district. He said that all efforts are being made not only to conduct such events but also continue these events to channelize energies of youth.
        Later on DGP and other officers  distributed prizes among the winners and other players. UNI
