Srinagar, Sep 28: The traffic department, regulating traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, has been tasked to ensure smooth, safe and timely transportation of horticulture industry produce to outside the state.     Inspector General of Police (IGP) Traffic has issues directions for keeping Jawahar Tunnel open 24×7 following directions passed by Minister for Horticulture Syed Basharat Bukhari in a recent meeting.
      An official spokesman said that making Jawahar tunnel operational round the clock during fruit season, IGP Traffic  today assigned tasks to concerned police officers to ensure smooth, safe and timely transportation of horticulture industry produce to outside the State.
IGP Traffic directed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural and SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban to give priority to the movement of Fruit vehicles from the Valley towards Jammu.
He directed SSP Traffic City Jammu, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban and SP Traffic Rural Jammu for pasting one-point checking sticker on the fruit vehicles to ensure hassle free movement.
SSP Kulgam, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir and SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban will ensure opening of both tubes of Jawahar tunnel round the clock for hassle free moment of fruit vehicles in view of the ongoing fruit season.
Earlier, It was also given out in the meeting that Director Horticulture Kashmir in collaboration with J&K Bank will also put a special fluorescent sticker on fruit vehicles so that these vehicles are identified from a distance.
Lauding the affords of J&K Police for taking measures to ensure hassle free transportation of horticulture produce, the Minister said that the Government has undertaken a holistic programme for ensuring equitable and sustainable development of horticulture sector of the State.
He said that initiative will fetch good returns to traders as well as growers. UNI
