New
Delhi, Sept 27: The Delhi Cabinet today decided to regularise about 15,000
guest teachers and teachers engaged under the 'Sarva Siksha Abhiyan'. According
to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, these guest teachers were having
requisite qualification and standard for teaching in schools under the
Directorate of School Education. They did their job with dedication and proved
to be an asset for the government schools. Mr Sisodia said the draft
Legislative proposal will be brought in the ensuing Delhi Assembly Session to
be convened on October 4, for approval. These teachers played a crucial role in
some of the flagship programmes in DoE schools, including Summer Camps,
Chunauti and Reading Campaign, the Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal, observed. Mr Sisodia claimed that Delhi Government schools have had excellent
results in Class 12, outperforming private schools for two years in a row. If
the guest teachers are replaced with completely fresh teachers, the DoE would
suffer a setback to education reform process and need to re-start the process
from scratch. Apart from the training programmes, guest teachers have over the
years of their functioning, acquired skills and competencies essential to
working in government schools. UNI
