New
Delhi, Sept 27: Joining issue with senior BJP leader and former Finance
Minister Yashwant Sinha that Indian economy has landed in a "mess",
the Centre on Wednesday asserted that contrary to such critical observation,
Indian economy has done well and its "credibility" is established
globally. "There can be denying the fact that Indian economy is today the
fastest growing economy....This is established across the world ("saari
duniya mein")," Union Home Minister and former BJP chief Rajnath
Singh told reporters here. Answering questions at the media briefing on Cabinet
meeting, Mr Singh initially was reluctant to field the query saying interaction
should be confined to the Cabinet agenda only. However, on being insisted
further by journalists, he said, "As far as economy is concerned, the
whole world accepts that India is world's fastest growing economy. No one
should forget this" He said it ought to be admitted that "India's
credibility" as a fast growing economy has been established worldwide. In
an article in a section of media on Wednesday, Mr Sinha has said Indian economy
has landed in a "mess" and alleged that during last three years,
"Private investment has shrunk as never before in two decades, industrial
production has all but collapsed, agriculture is in distress, construction
industry, a big employer of the work force, is in the doldrums." UNI
