SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 6 – A delegation of AYUSH doctors under
the banner of AYUSH Welfare Forum comprising, Dr. Mohammad Jamal (Vice
President), Dr. Shabir Ahmad Gaffari, Dr. Mansoor Ahmad Khan, Dr. Saif-ul-abrar
and Dr. Wahid-ul-hassan called on the Minsiter for Health & Medical
Education, Bali Bhagat at his official residnece here today and
highlighted the issues relating to the functioning of the Department of AYUSH
in Jammu and Kashmir.
The delegation expressed gratitude to the Minister for his relentless
efforts for improving the overall functioning of the department vis-à-vis
reviving the Government Ayurvedic College at Jammu and expediting the compliton
of Government Unani College at Srinagar. The delgation also submitted a
memorandum of demands, which mostly related to the welfare of AYUSH doctors,
upgradation of infrastructural facilities and further expansion of the ISM
Department in view of the increased work load of patients across the ISM
institutions in the State. They maintained that the AYUSH sector has received
further push under the dynamism command of present leadership and hoped that it
would touch new heights with combined and concerted efforts.
While interacting with the AYUSH doctors, the Minister said that the
process of commissioning the Government Ayurvedic College at Jammu is almost at
the final stage as the Union Ministry of AYUSH has agreed in principle to start
the first batch of BAMS from the current session. He apprised that he has
called on the Union MoS AYUSH and concerned officials at Delhi along with the
State officers a number of times for expediting the commissioning of the
Ayurvedic College, and formal orders are likely to be issued within next few
days. Meanwhile, the State Government has already taken up the issue of selection
of 50 eligible candidates for undergoing BAMS course with the BOPEE authorities
to start the first batch from the current session.
Mr. Bali Bhagat further informed that the work of Government Unani
College is also at the advanced stage and concerned executive agency has been
directed to accomplish the project in a time bound manner. The process of
recruitment of manpower and creating other requisite facilities for
commissioning the Unani College has also been set in motion. After completion
of all requisite formalities, the State Government will facilitate the study
visit of Central team for making the College functional, he added.
Referring to the overall funcitoning of the ISM Department, the Minister
said that AYUSH sector has grown tremendoulsy in the country and State during
the past over some time and there is great awareness amongst the patients about
this traditional healthcare system. He said Government is aware about the
increased workload in the AYUSH Centres in the State and a well-knit programme
has been formulated to upgrade the facilities to meet the flow of patients. He
expressed happiness that the AYUSH doctors and para-medics are doing good job
in the District Hospitals, Sub-District Hospitals and PHCS in the rural areas.
He asked them to make their dedicated efforts to provide best healthcare to the
patients.
