“We are not demanding any special session of Legislature. What we are demanding is the session which is due under the constitution. It is a concern raised by all sections of the society that Legislature session convened in Kashmir valley is not for sufficient time,” Mr Tarigami told UNI.
He said the government some time back called for a session of Legislature but that was only for two days that too to discuss a specific issue, implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state. “But, that can’t be a substitute for a regular session,” he added.
He said delegation raised various issues confronted by the common masses, including mis-governance, misappropriation in appointments in various government posts, corruption, and slow pace of development.
“The delegation brought to the notice of the Governor, the lackadaisical attitude of PDP-BJP government in addressing issues concerning people of the state,” a joint statement issued by the opposition leaders said after meeting Mr Vohra.
"The session will enable a discussion on various political and legal challenges the state is facing," it reads.
“Other issues highlighted in the meeting was the "total failure of the incumbent government" especially on fronts of curbing booming and rampant corruption, promotion of nepotism and backdoor appointments and dismal performance of state in forwarding the interests of it people,” it alleged. "Many government departments and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been turned into the fiefdom of the ruling parties," the statement further alleged.UNI
