SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 21: The
Senior Hockey Championship-2017, organized by Hockey J&K and sponsored by
Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council, concludes here today with the final
match played between Hockey Club Shopian and Behram Shah Hocky Club Anantnag at
Polo Ground, Hockey Field. The Behram Shah Hockey Club Anantnag won the final by 6-5 through a tie breaker.
As many as 12 hockey teams of Valley participated in the championship.
Senior Superintendent of Police/ CO Sports JK Police Muhammad Yasin
Kichloo was chief guest while renowned national footballer Nazir Ahmad was the
chief guest on the final match ceremony.
After witnessing the final match, Kichloo said that hockey is
flourishing in the state day by day as large number of youth is showing
interest in Hockey. He said the sports are essential for overall development of
the human persona and the State. He emphasized on the need for encouraging
extra-curricular activities in the state for nurturing the talent in the field
from early age.
Speaking on the occasion Divisional Sports Officer Youth Services and
Sports Department Nuzhat Ara said that by organizing such sports events the
sports talent of States’ youth would further be honed up enabling them to compete at National
and International level. She said by encouraging and organizing sports
activities the talent of the youth would get properly channelized for better
sportsmanship.
Among others Divisional Sports Officer YSS Nuzhat Ara, Secretary Hockey
JK Gurdeep Singh, Organizing Secretary Raja Ghulam Nabi Wani, office bearers of
State Sports Council and a large number of hockey lovers witnessed the match.
Later, the chief guest distributed trophies and mementos among the
players who played in the final match.
