PULWAMA, SEPTEMBER 27: District Development Commissioner Pulwama, Ghulam Mohammad Dar
today visited various areas in the district to review the status of various
works being executed under prestigious National Highway-444 project.
ADC Pulwama Showkat Ahmad Rather, Executive Engineers Project Circle
other concerned Officers of the executing agency accompanied the DDC.
It was said that the highway project involves road length of 127
kilometers and will connect Pulwama district to Srinagar and Qazigund. In Pulwama
it will run through 22 villages from Batpora-Wanpora to Nikas and around 689
kanals of land has to be acquired for the project.
The DDC emphasized upon the importance of the National Highway-444 and
said that the proposed highway was approved by Central Government to improve
road infrastructure in the state which will augment the existing road network
and roads.
He directed the executing agencies that minimum residential houses shall
be brought under its alignment and religious structure and graveyards should be
excluded as far as possible. He said that project when completed will expand
the existing roads and would connect the Poonch–Rajouri Circular road and
road leading to Lassipora which is big industrial growth centre thus
benefiting people especially in forward backward linkage chain and would
provide a boost to economy.
The road passes through a number of Urban, Semi urban and rural areas
with variable configuration from single lane, intermediate and double lane in
urban sections. It is pertinent to mention that the condition of the existing
road varies from poor to fair weather in most of the sections.
