SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 29: Chairman, Juvenile Justice Committee J&K
High Court, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey today saw off three non-local children
from the Observation Home, Harwan Srinagar, who will be returned to their
families.
Director State Judicial Academy (Secretary Juvenile Justice Committee
High Court) Abdul Rashid Malik, District Magistrate Srinagar Syed Abid
Rasheed, State Mission Director, ICDS, G A Sofi, SSP Srinagar Imitiaz Ismail,
representatives of UNICEF India Child Protection Unit and other concerned were
also present on the occasion.
Justice Magrey interacted with the children and enquired
about the facilities provided to them during their stay at the Juvenile Home.
He advised them to continue their studies for their prosperous future.
He highlighted that the primary aim of rehabilitation and social-reintegration
is to help children restore their dignity and self worth through rehabilitation
within the society and with their families.
It was said that steps are being taken to oversee the implementation of
decisions taken at recently held conference on Juvenile Justice System presided
over by Justice Madan B Lokur, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Judge In
charge, Juvenile Justice Committee and Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir,
Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed.
Both, Justice Lokur and Justice Durrez Ahmed earlier visited the
Juvenile Home at Harwan, Srinagar to take stock of facilities there. During
their visit two children were reunited with their family members.
The rehabilitation process of these restored children with their
families will be monitored by the Social Welfare Department, District
Magistrate Srinagar and Child Welfare Committee, West Bengal in coordination
with UNICEF India so that these children do not become victims of exploitation
again.
