SRINAGAR, APRIL 26:  Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey today stressed the need to ensure swift disposal of cases to uphold the faith of people in Judiciary.
 He was addressing one-day workshop titled “Importance of Criminal Appeal in Higher Courts and Role of Prosecutors and Investigators” organized by J&K Police at Police Headquarters here.
 Justice Magrey was Chief Guest on the occasion while Justice M K Hanjura was Guest of Honour. The other guests included Inspector General of Police Kashmir Range S P Pani besides Judges, other senior police officers, prosecutors, lawyers, investigators and department officials.
Justice Magrey said the crime scene investigators, prosecutors and judiciary are an important component in a society that is responsible to uphold the justice delivery system. He said all these three components need to work in rhythm, collect and record all evidence, properly analyze the case and ensure free and fair trial to ensure justice.
He also said that there are a number of backlog cases due to the diminution of the reliability of evidence resulting in under-trials still waiting for trial and added that the need of the hour is to process those pending cases to strengthen criminal justice system in the state.
 Speaking on the occasion, Justice M K Hanjura said that at the first stage of crime important responsibility lies on the crime scene investigators who should have a fair knowledge of the law and they must take extraordinary care in collecting evidence, recording statements of victims and witnesses properly, seal crime scene and make proper reports.
 He said afterwards it is the duty of prosecutors to understand the sensibility of the issue and critically analyze the case so that the charge-sheet filed is fair and accurate and added that at last, the judiciary should ensure a free and fair trial in the case.  
 IG Kashmir, S P Pani in his welcome address said that the workshop was conducted with the purpose to sensitize investigators, prosecutors of fair investigation adding that good investigation is important for rule of law.
The DIG CKR, V K Birdi delivered the vote of thanks, he thanked the guests for their august presence in the workshop and assured that the department will upgrade the quality of investigation to ensure fair disposal of cases.

SRINAGAR, APRIL 06: Union Government has nominated Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, as the member of the National Legal Services Authority of India (Central Authority), constituted under Section 3 of the Legal Services Act, 1987.
The notification to this effect was issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice (Department of Justice) on April 5, 2018, which states that the nomination has been made by the Central Government in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, Ministry of Law and Justice Department of Legal Affairs.
Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey is presently Chairman of J&K High Court Legal Services Committee as well as Chairman, Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of J&K.
This is the first time that a Judge of the High Court from J&K has been nominated for the coveted and responsible position at the national level.
 Chief Justice of India Dipak Mishra is the Patron-in-Chief and Justice Ranjan Gogoi is the Executive Chairman of National Legal Services Authority of India (NALSA). 
The notification was published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii).
The NALSA is tasked with multifarious functions including laying down policies, principles and schemes for making legal services available under the provisions of the Act and make appropriate allocations of funds to the State and District authorities.
Other important functions of the Central Authority include taking necessary steps by way of social justice litigation with regard to consumer protection, environmental protection and matters concerning weaker sections of the society, organizing legal aid camps especially in rural areas, slums or labour colonies with dual purpose of educating the weaker sections of the society as well as encouraging settlement of disputes through Lok Adalats by way of negotiations, arbitration and conciliation undertaking and promoting research in the field of legal services with special reference to the need for such services among the poor, monitoring and evaluating implementation of legal aid programmes, providing grants-in-aid for specific schemes to various voluntary social service institutions, developing programmes for clinical legal education and taking appropriate measures for spreading legal literacy and legal awareness among the people.
The people associated with the legal fraternity are jubilant about this development, hoping that association of Justice Magrey with such a highly reputed national legal entity will ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen of the State by reason of economic or other disabilities.

Judicial team takes stock of facilities

JAMMU, OCTOBER 21: Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey - Chairman, Juvenile Justice Committee of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court along with Justice M K Hanjura today visited Observation Home, Children’s Home and Nari Niketan at R S Pura to take stock of facilities being provided to the inmates there.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Magrey said that the team evaluated the provisions and facilities being extended to the inmates are in accordance to the set rules and norms.
He further said that steps are being taken to rehabilitate the juveniles at the correctional facility, some of whom belong to other states and countries like Nepal and Bangladesh.
Pertinently, among 09 juvenile inmates at the Home, 03 are children from PoK while 01 is from Bangladesh.

PO ICDS Jammu, Jyoti Slathia besides other senior officers of Social Welfare Department were present on the occasion.

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 29: Chairman, Juvenile Justice Committee J&K High Court, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey today saw off three non-local children from the Observation Home, Harwan Srinagar, who will be returned to their families.
Director State Judicial Academy (Secretary Juvenile Justice Committee High Court) Abdul Rashid Malik, District Magistrate Srinagar Syed Abid Rasheed, State Mission Director, ICDS, G A Sofi, SSP Srinagar Imitiaz Ismail, representatives of UNICEF India Child Protection Unit and other concerned were also present on the occasion.
  Justice Magrey interacted with the children and enquired about the facilities provided to them during their stay at the Juvenile Home. He advised them to continue their studies for their prosperous future.
He highlighted that the primary aim of rehabilitation and social-reintegration is to help children restore their dignity and self worth through rehabilitation within the society and with their families.
It was said that steps are being taken to oversee the implementation of decisions taken at recently held conference on Juvenile Justice System presided over by Justice Madan B Lokur, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Judge In charge, Juvenile Justice Committee and Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir, Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed.
Both, Justice Lokur and Justice Durrez Ahmed earlier visited the Juvenile Home at Harwan, Srinagar to take stock of facilities there. During their visit two children were reunited with their family members.

The rehabilitation process of these restored children with their families will be monitored by the Social Welfare Department, District Magistrate Srinagar and Child Welfare Committee, West Bengal in coordination with UNICEF India so that these children do not become victims of exploitation again.
