Srinagar, Sep 28: Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest early this morning to prevent him from participating in a seminar to pay tributes to Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Muhammad. The seminar was scheduled to be held at the Hyderpora residence of hardline Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who remained under house arrest from June 2016. However, there was no restriction on Separatist leader Mohammad Yasin Malik. "Security forces and state police personnel were deployed outside Mirwaiz's Nigeen residence early this morning. He was informed that he cannot leave the house till further orders," a spokesman said. “Placed under #HouseArrest as I was about to leave for a seminar at Geelani Sb’s house to pay tributes to #ImamHussain (RA) & MartyrsOfKarbala,” the Mirwaiz tweeted. Meanwhile, a hardline Hurriyat spokesperson said security forces remained deployed outside Geelani’s house. UNI
