3 drug peddlers arrested, contraband recovered in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 3: Jammu and Kashmir Police today arrested three drug peddlers and recovered huge quantity of contraband from them in two separate incidents in Kashmir valley.
      Meanwhile, bung cultivation spread over a vast patch of land was destroyed in north Kashmir district of Kupwara.
      A police spokesperson here this evening said that following specific information about transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established at  Padshahi Bagh Bijbehara in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
      He said a vehicle, without number plate, was intercepted at the checkpoint. “During checking police recovered 30 kg of poppy straw from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicxle, identified as Aaqib Ahmad Mantoo, was immediately taken into custody.
      In another incident, police intercepted a truck at a checkpoint at Magam in central Kashmir district of Budgam. “Two bags of poppy straw weighing about 12 kg were recovered during the checking,” he said, adding driver Shabir Ahmad Shah and conductor Irshad Ahmad Shah, onboard the truck, were arrested.
      Police have registered cases in both the incidents and initiated investigations to nab people responsible for drug trafficking, he added.
      He said bung cultivation spread over a vast patch of land in Unisoo, Wahipora and Pohropeth in Handwara in Kupwara was destroyed. UNI
