Oct 12: All educational institutions remained closed on Thursday in the
Kashmir valley, where separatist have urged students to hold protests in their
respective institutions against braid chopping incidents. Divisional
Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan has ordered closure of all government
and private schools, colleges and other institutions in the valley as a
precautionary measure. However, several Deputy Commissioners, including
Anantnag, Pulwama and Baramulla issued separate orders closing all educational
institutions. Majority educational institutions have started annual
examinations in the Kashmir valley from Wednesday. The examinations which were
scheduled to start from Monday could not be held due to strike, called by
separatists against braid chopping. The Kashmir University has also ordered
suspension of class work in the university today. However, all examinations
would be conducted as per schedule. The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL)
comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and separatist
leader Mohammad Yaseen Malik after announcing postponement of “TRC Pologround
chalo” on October 14, had urged students to hold protests in educational
institutions today against incidents of braid chopping. UNI
