New
Delhi, Oct 27: The Supreme Court today allowed the Union of India's plea
to withdraw from North Bengal seven companies of the Central Reserve Police
Force for deployment in election-bound states. A three-judge bench, headed by
Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar
and DY Chandrachud, delivered the ruling on a plea filed by the Centre
challenging a recent Calcutta High Court order. Eight CRPF companies, the apex
court said, will remain stationed in the districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
The apex court also sought a detailed reply from the West Bengal government
within a week and fixed the matter for further hearing to 27th November. The
Central government had submitted before the Supreme court that it requires
deployment of forces for the upcoming elections, and for that the mobilisation
has to begin as early as possible. UNI
