SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 21: Minister
of State for Housing & Urban Development, Asiea Naqash, today stressed on
adopting scientific approach in conservation of Dal, Nageen Lake here.
During the meeting, the Minister discussed ways of adopting scientific
methods in preserving the lakes.
While discussing action plan on the decisions of Scientific Advisory
Committee, the Minister said that steps should be properly implemented to
preserve the water body.
She said that artificial water bodies and retention ponds, which is an
important component of the project, should be created and upgraded to entrap
the nutrients in lake only.
The Minister also said that the modern techniques should be employed
for vegetation mapping in lake, besides employing the mechanical devices and
enough manpower for cleaning of lake.
Naqash said the plan for conservation of lake should be upgraded and
augmented from time to time following the guidelines of Scientific Advisory
Committee.
She also said that biological solutions should be looked into to make
these lakes flourishing again.
The Minister also reviewed the progress of Brarinambal lagoon and asked
the officials to carry out the dredging of lagoons and feeding channel.
The Minister also reviewed the progress of expansion of Western
Foreshore and the four laning of Boulevard besides rehabilitation of people
living in flood prone areas.
The officials apprised the Minister about various components and
progress of action plan and was informed that Rs 49 crore Western Foreshore
project has been submitted to the concerned quarters.
The officials said that this project is a need of the hour and will
help in decongestion of the traffic in the city.
The meeting was attended by Vice-Chairman LAWDA, Dr A.H Shah, Director
Finance, Housing and Urban Development, Shaheen Mohammad Ashraf, Secretary
LAWDA, Collector LAWDA, S.E LAWDA, Executive Engineers and Scientists.
