New Delhi, Oct 27: In a political atmosphere wherein the Shiv Sena has stepped attack against BJP and especially against Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying even the 'Modi wave is fading', the Congress has asserted that it can have "no opportunistic alliance" with parties like Sena. "We play politics of principles and ideology. Ware not the BJP type join hands with the parties having different ideologies," senior Congress leader and in-charge Maharashtra Mohan Prakash told UNI here. As of now, he said the Congress is "growing and going strong" in Maharashtra and has not taken any decision on alliance making. "Hum baiskahi ke bharaose agaey nahi bardna chahenge (We would not like to move ahead in Maharashtra with support of clutches)," he said. He also ruled out Congress establishing any contacts with Narayan Rane-led Maharashtra Swabhiman Paksh. "If need be, we may look up to like-minded parties," Mr Prakash said hinting towards possible alliance yet again with NCP led by Sharad Pawar. However, he said, "......our party has not decided anything on the issue of alliance". To a question, Mr Prakash maintained that the BJP is growing "nervous in Gujarat" as the people of Gujarat "seemed to have made up their mind against BJP". "Moreover, the Gujarat campaign by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is doing very well," he said. To a question on Congress party's successes in local polls in Parbhani, Bhiwandi and Malegaon, he said "The truth of the matter is Congress is gaining ground. BJP is losing its support base and the people are seeing a viable alternative in the Congress". Mr Rane, who has considerable influence in the Konkan region, floated a new party--Maharashtra Swabhiman Paksh-- which he said would be a part of the BJP-led NDA. Mohan Prakash of the Congress said that his party would "not use clutches of parties lacking ideology similar to it" while moving forward in the state. "We are not (like) the BJP (to allegedly join hands with the parties having different ideologies). If the need arises, we may look up to like-minded parties. But our party has not decided anything on the issue as of now," he said. UNI
