| Calls for combating mal nutrition among children |
UDHAMPUR OCTOBER 26 - The
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar, today chaired a
meeting of officers to review physical and financial progress under Health
Sector in the district.
He also reviewed the implementation of various centrally as well as
state sponsored health related schemes, with special focus on the steps taken
for combating the problem of mal-nutrition among the children.
Reviewing the implementation of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK),
the DDC directed CMO to conduct a detailed survey of schools and ICDS centres
for health analysis of children as per the WHO guidelines. He said it would
help in better planning for combating malnutrition among children, reducing
child mortality and improving survival of infants. He informed that Udhampur is
one of the districts falling in red zone as per a national survey conducted to
assess prevalence of malnutrition in the country. He further
directed them to distribute iron and calcium supplements among school children
under the supervision of medical practitioner or teaching staff.
The DDC
also directed to conduct joint workshops and camps by the department of
Education, Health, Social-Welfare and ICDS to sensitize people about the
problem.
Terming ASHA workers an important component for providing primary health
care at the village level, the DDC directed CMO to instruct them to work
towards achieving 100% institutional deliveries. He further directed the CMO to
issue show cause notices to those ASHA workers who were not performing their
duties in the field for the past 3 months.
To improve
institutional deliveries, the DDC directed BMOs to establish pre-labour rooms
at all the PHCs having Operation theatre to facilitate the institutional
deliveries.
The DDC also directed to activate Village Health, nutrition and
sanitation committees to hold sanitation drives to make hygiene
and cleanliness an integrated part of village life. He also laid stress on making it
mandatory for field functionaries to attend the monthly meetings to create
awareness among villagers about sanitation.
It was informed that in last two years 51 medical cases were provided
Rs. 35 lakh as financial assistance of in the district.
The DDC
also stressed on meeting the shortage of 101 doctors in the district and
assured to take up the matter with concerned authorities.
He also stressed on creating awareness regarding PC-PNDT Act to improve
the child sex ratio. Felicitating the whistle blower for reporting the
violation of the Act was among other issues discussed threadbare.
The DDC directed CMO to ensure 100% Aadhar seeding of beneficiaries
under all health schemes.
Earlier, the CMO informed the DDC about the progress cum performance of
Health department under State and Central Health related schemes including the
progress achieved under RBSK, NIPI, PMSMS, RNTCP, NCD and Immunization program.
The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Ashok Khajuria,
Assistant Commissioner Development , Sushil kesar, Project Director DRDA,
Jagdish Mehra, Chief Medical Officer, K.C. Dogra, District Social Welfare
Officer, Rachna Sharma, Chief Education Officer, BMOs , ZEOs and other officers
of health and Education departments.
