KULGAM, OCTOBER 21: Electoral Roll Observer (ERO) for Kulgam, Shahid
Inayatullah, today chaired a meeting of EROs, AEROs and representatives of
political parties to review the progress of special summary revision of
electoral rolls.
District Election Officer, Talat Parvez Rohella, gave a detailed account
of the status of claims and objections, updation of the database and the EPIC
status among other details on the occasion.
It was given out that 4 EROs and 14 AEROs have been appointed for the
special summary revision of electoral rolls. It was said that 337,092 electors
have been registered against the population of 5.34 lac as per Census 2011. The
registration constitutes an electoral population ratio of 62% against the State
ratio of 52.60%.
So far, under Form-6, an addition of 4508 has been made while as under
Form-7, 1494 are the deletions, while as correction of 824 has been registered
under Form-8 and 21 transposed have been incorporated under Form- 8A as on
date.
In addition, 1108 new applications have been received under Form-6 and
982 were received under Form-7 by October 20, 2017. The DEO also informed the
chair about the Special Camp organized on October 14, adding that training to
Booth Level Operators were imparted at four different venues in the district.
Regarding the EPIC coverage, the meeting was informed that the district
has registered 95.88% electors under EPIC.
With respect to registering the voters of 18-19 years of age, the Chief
Education Officer was directed to ensure 100% registration of new voters by
involving the heads of educational institutions in the SVEEP activity.
He was informed that, under SVEEP, seminars were conducted in all higher
secondary schools to highlight the importance of voting rights. Besides, to
reach out to all the population, novel methods like stamping the OPD tickets,
distributing pamphlets in the electricity bills were adopted.
The Electoral Roll Observer called on the representatives of the
political parties to cooperative with the district administration in ensuring
100% coverage of the left-out eligible voters. It was also requested to
activate Booth Level Agents in those areas falling short of participation in
the enrolment process.
The AEROs were instructed to ensure door-to-door survey and mass
awareness of the public about the significance of registration process. The
representatives of the political parties also sought the intervention of ECI in
providing polling stations near the electors so that voting percentage is
increased.
The meeting was attended by ADDC, ADC, ACR, SDM DH Pora, Chief Education
Officer, Tehsildars and representatives of political parties of NC, Congress
and CPIM.
