GDC Baramulla conducts day-long seminar on UGC schemes

BARAMULLA, OCTOBER 25: The Government Degree College, Baramulla organized a day-long workshop on schemes of University Grants Commission in vogue during 12^th Plan with special emphasis on scheme of “College with Potential For Excellence-CPE”.

The workshop was conducted by Joint secretary UGC New Delhi, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir and was attended by UGC coordinators of North Kashmir colleges besides Principal, teaching staff of the College, members of College establishment and its accounts section.

Pertinently, GDC Baramulla is one among the five colleges in State to have a CPE status.

Various speakers shared their expertise and opinion vis-à-vis the academic progress made by the College and essence of the current awareness workshop with the participants.

On the occasion, Dr. Mir presented a picture of the status of higher education in the country, Gross Enrolment Ratio of the country with special emphasis on the state of J&K. Various components of NAAC, RUSA, PFMS, UGC’s schemes in Block Grant to colleges, guidelines and eligibility for achieving CPE and CE statuses were explained to the receptive participants.

Also, emphasis was laid on the fact that the benefit of the grants under CPE should trickle down to the ultimate beneficiaries, i.e., the students enrolled in the institution. The comprehensive presentation was followed by interactive brainstorming session and extensive question-answer session.

Issues related to MRP, release of salary under FDP scheme, API scores and various other queries were discussed with the Joint Secretary. He assured all help to participants and their respective institutions in getting their grievances redressed on priority at UGC. Clarifications with regard to components of CPE scheme like Capital Assets, Grant- in- Aid were discussed at length with the Joint Secretary.

Dr. Mir advocated for the constitution of Advisory committee in the College with a nominee from UGC New Delhi which would address issue of re-appropriation of funds granted to the College under various components of CPE.

Earlier, Principal GDC Baramulla and Director North Campus University stressed on the proper and timely expenditure of the grants under CPE and their judicious use for the overall academic and infrastructural development of this institution.
