(Mah) Oct 18: Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) indefinite
strike which began in midnight on October 16 entered second day on Wednesday
paralysing normal life in entire Marathwada region as well as across the state.
The strike call was given by the, Joint Action Committee comprising S T Workers
union along with Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and others employees unions
pressing for their main demand to implement the seventh pay commission. Sources
claimed that strike was 100 per cent success in the state and adamant on their
demands. More than 4000 buses in all the eight disticts Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed,
Osmanabad, Nanded, Hingoli, Parbhani and Latur seen parked in their depots
which took deserted look and incurred estimated loss of near about Rs 4 cr in
the region. Sources also said that some employees who had tried to resume their
works were barred by the agitators. Till further reports, State goverment has
directed RTOs that private travel agencies, school buses, company buses should
operate buses till further orders. Meanwhile, the government has issued
ultimatum to striking employees to resume their works by Wednesday morning and
threatened appointment of temporary staffs to run the buses as well as strict
action against striking employees. UNI
