SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 25: Taking
cognizance of pictures viral on social media alleging that the manufacturer/
packer of Safa Sheer curd packages is manipulating printing, manufacturing date
on the packages one day in advance. An inspection of the concerned trading
premises was carried out by the Legal Metrology department officials wherein
the complaint was found to be genuine and a case was registered against the
offender for having contravened relevant provisions of the Legal Metrology
Laws.
It is pertinent to mention that the curd packages with a manufacturing
date of October 23, 2017 were purchased by the consumer on October 22, 2017,
and the department of Legal Metrology penalized the milk manufacturer/packer
with fine for printing false statutory declaration on the packages.
The offender applied for compounding the offence at Department level
assuring the Department that the offence will not be repeated in future and
following the assurance the offence was compounded.
Acting swiftly on two other consumer complaints alleging overcharging on
packaged drinking water carried out by restaurants located in Srinagar city,
the Department penalized the restaurateurs with a fine of Rs. 2000 each for
having contravened the provisions of Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities)
Rules, 2011.
