Delhi, Oct 11: Emphasizing the need to modernize and transform Railways,
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday urged people in the industry to look
forward to partnerships to bring in the best of technology in the Railways.
“Instead of doing 30 km, I say we do 500 km and do it with the best technology,
modern equipment, and planning” Mr Goyal said. Speaking at the 12th
International Railway Equipment Exhibition here on Wednesday, Mr Goyal said
that the government is in a hurry to provide the most modern, most efficient
and best modes of transport to serve the poor of India. To ensure speedy
implementation of projects, government was working on a system by which payment
on the 30th day for everything that is supplied to the Railways is guaranteed,
the Railways Minister announced. “We want to change the rules of the game now;
no more delays in the rail projects should be entertained from now,” he said.
He said simple things like prompt payment and quick approval of designs brings
down costs significantly. Hailing the decision of the government to bring in
bullet trains in the country, Mr Goyal said the country was late by 50 years in
bringing new technology to Railways as it was in 1969 that the last high speed
or modern train Rajdhani was introduced. UNI
