New Delhi,
Oct 11: Rebel Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy, who quit his Rajya
Sabha berth and disassociated himself from the party, on Wednesday seemed to
have decided to emulate the likes of Yashwant Sinha and his son Jayant Sinha.
Asked whether his son Subhranshu Roy, two-time MLA from Bijpur in North 24
Parganas in West Bengal, would also follow suit and move out of the Trinamool
Congress, Mr Roy told reporters, "Why? Yashwant Sinha and Jayant Sinha are
opposing each other. In politics, there is no hard and fast rule. Jyotiraditya
Scinda is also opposed to Vasundhara Raje". Mr Roy denied that his
decision to join the BJP has been stuck due to some bargaining. To a question,
Mr Roy, known for his organisational skills and who practically single-handed piloted
Trinamool's expansion in states like Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur,
said he has friends across the parties. "Why only BJP....I have many
friends in Congress. Adhir Chowdhury (West Bengal Congress chief) is one of my
best friends....Of course I have very good relationsship with Arun Jaitley and
Kailash Vijayvargiya," he said adding, "I have friendship even with
Sitaram Yechury". The speculation over Mr Roy, onetime second in command
in Trinamool, had gained currency after he met top leaders like Arun Jaitley
and Kailash Vijayvargiya. But on Wednesday, Mr Roy maintained that no final
decision has been taken and he would be going to Kolkata for Kali Puja and
Diwali. "I will make formal announcement of my decision only after
Holidays," he said. To a question, he did not rule out the possibility of
his floating a new regional party saying way back in 1960s, the regional outfit
Bangla Congress too had done well. UNI
