Agartala,
Oct 12: The joint forum of media in Tripura has launched mass signature
campaign to press for their demand of CBI probe into the death of young
television journalist Shantanu Bhowmik (28) in a mysterious circumstance on
September 20 last at Mandwi of West Tripura. Talking to media, Convenor of the
forum and veteran journalist Subal Kumar Dey alleged that besides social media
the agitating journalists have been getting threat over telephone in past three
days warning them to stay away from the demand of CBI enquiry into the death of
Shantanu. “The miscreants are also making threat calls to a leading television
channel asking to stop airing the agitation of journalists, civil societies and
political parties who are demanding CBI into Bhowmik’s murder. At least three
CPI(M) activists including a state secretariat member abused the journalists
who has been demanding for CBI probe in social media and openly instigating the
public against the demand,” Mr Dey stated. He further stated that not only the
journalists the civil society members who have supported the movement were
threatened to life in social media. Apart from specific cases, Director General
of Police was also informed to take action against the criminals but police has
not yet take any step. Moreover, the father of slain Shantanu – Sadhan Bhowmik
and his families were also getting pressure to change the statement of his
demand of CBI. Mr Bhowmik last week in media asked for CBI probe into the
murder of his son, as he alleged they don’t have any faith on police because
Shantanu was murder in presence of police and still police is shielding the
criminals. UNI
