New Delhi, Nov 28: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking to stall the release
of 'Padmavati' outside India.
While dismissing the petition, a three-judge bench, headed by
Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, observed that when the matter is
pending consideration of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), how
can persons holding public offices comment on whether the CBFC should issue
certificate or not? This will prejudice the decision making power of the CBFC.
The bench dismissed the plea filed by lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma and slammed him for filing a frivolous petition.
The petitioner has also sought the deletion of objectionable scenes from the film.
"All concerned people holding responsible post must be guided by the rule of law and should not pass comments on films which have not been cleared by the CBFC. It will prejudice the mind of board members while taking a decision on the film," the bench, also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, said in the order. UNI
