Morbi, Nov 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a jibe at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for terming the Goods and Services Tax as “Gabbar Singh Tax” and said on Wednesday the "new economist" is expressing “Grand Stupid Thought” these days.
“I’m surprised that many economists and intellectuals who have always looted the public exchequer are now talking about new Grand Stupid Thought,” Mr Modi said, addressing a public meeting here.
"They talk of poverty and want imposition of 18 per cent tax rate on salt, shoes, clothes and other basic commodities but at the same time want the GST to be reduced on alcohol, cigarettes and luxurious vehicles. They want the GST to be reduced from 28 per cent to 18 per cent for these products. What logic is this?," he asked.
Mr Modi assured that if there was any mistake in the new tax reform the government will rectify it.
On demonetization, the prime minister attacked the Congress party and said, “After looting the country’s exchequer, now they are talking of social welfare and screaming note ban, note ban, note ban all the way."  UNI
