Officials here on Thursday said that during 2016-2017, the societies in the district have registered a business turnover of Rs 1218.26 lakh.
“It includes Rs 398.59 lakh from fertilizers, Rs 267.89 lakh from consumer goods, Rs 175.58 lakh sale of Medicines, Rs 29.05 lakh from Poultry, Rs 43.57 lakh from Dairy, Rs 4.85 lakh from Sheep, Rs 111.36 lakh from consumer business,” they said.
They said that 55 Cooperative Societies Registrar under Cooperative Societies Act 1989 are functioning in the district.
Meanwhile, District Development Commissioner, Anantnag Mohammad Younus Malik has appealed the members of the society to adopt modern innovations to make the societies more communicable and profitable.
The DDC Anantnag said that cooperatives have played a vital role in the socio-economic development of the state.
He also directed for the establishment of shopping malls on large scale on cooperative land and construct sustainable assets for the department so that people in large can start their income generating units in the sector.
