Hamirpur (Himachal), Nov 3: In the midst of intense political battle between BJP and Congress in the run up to Assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh, within saffron camp, the Dhumal-Anurag Thakur camp seemed to have won a major battle against their rivals.
Voters and BJP supporters in this key political and educational hub of Hamirpur feel the announcement by BJP chief Amit Shah anointing P K Dhumal as chief ministerial face has given boost to BJP campaign and also 'a clear message to rivals Shanta Kumar and J P Nadda'.
Besides Mr Dhumal's claim, names of veteran Shanta Kumar and union Health Minister J P Nadda were also considered by Mr Shah and Prime Minister for BJP's Chief Ministerial face.
But in the ultimate analysis announcement in favour of two time CM shows Mr Dhumal matters a lot in the state politics and he is the only one among BJP top guns who can take on incumbent Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, also a popular Thakur leader.
In Hamirpur, common voters feel this has also helped to give a much-needed push to Mr Dhumal's parliamentarian son and local MP Anurag Thakur.
The lawmaker is himself shy about developments going around him and describes himself only a party 'karyakarta', but several citizens and party workers say BJP central leaders' move to push the case of 73 -year old Dhumal ...will in the long run give political edge to Anurag Thakur as well.
'Contrary to a theory being circulated....even after reaching 75 Mr Dhumal will not be pushed out. This will allow Anurag Thakur time to build up his case with the party organisation,' says city-based educationist Mayur Kumar Singh.
In fact, to many BJP supporters, Anurag Thakur will be a key interlocutor between common people or cadres and the Chief Minister. 'People are already making a beeline before Anurag with their grievances and requests and want these to be resolved once Dhumal is back in power', says Prithvi Kashyap, a local meat seller.
For his part, Anurag seems to understand this well and on this backdrop told UNI - 'People's expectations are definitely high. Therefore, the BJP government will have to deliver much between December 2017 and April-May 2019 - when country will go for next Lok Sabha elections.' UNI
