Hamirpur, Nov 7: Obliged for having been declared as party's Chief Ministerial candidate, senior BJP leader P K Dhumal in the run-up to the November 9 polls often goes 'nostalgic' about his relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi these days.  Journalists and visitors to his Samirpur private residence near here are often told: "When you got, you will find a photograph of me and Mr Narendra Modi. It's a photograph of 24th March 1998....when I took oath as the Chief Minister. Modiji was in-charge of Himachal Pradesh. We embraced each other. Both of us were emotional. There were two garlands but in the photograph it appears it is only one garland....we hugged each other so tight". Mr Dhumal, 73, may be "lucky" in the Narendra Modi's scheme of things to become nominee BJP's Chief Ministerial face - as unofficially - Prime Minister discards people above 75. Most leaders around 75 of years in age in BJP are either sidelined or made members of the virtually defunct - Marg Darshak Mandal (the advisory board). The panel - comprising leaders like L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Rajnath Singh - has not met even for customary purpose ever since it was created in 2014 - after Amit Shah took over as BJP's national president. The ailing Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister Modi and Mr Shah himself as party chief are also members of the panel. Mr Dhumal knows the hard realities of politics - and he also knows the hard task master in Mr Modi. Therefore to a question on age bar of 75, two-time Chief Minister Dhumal is rather diplomatic: "I will cross the bridge when I reach it". So what's happening in Himachal Pradesh BJP - even after party's "expected victory" in the ensuing polls? Will Mr Dhumal only be at the helm of affairs for next two years? Will he pass on the baton to son and lawmaker Anurag Thakur? Or will J P Nadda, the dark horse in Himachal Pradesh politics, able to make it to the top spot? Most of these questions are expected, but answers lie only in the womb of time - as they put it. Both father-son (Dhumal-Anurag Thakur duo) - as of now - are banking on their performance record and the "good chemistry between Dhumal and Modi". The Hamirpur MP, Mr Thakur is trying hard these days to give out a message that age is not a major issue when it comes to performance. "I performed as a 25-year old in Himachal Cricket Board, Dhumalji was known as a "Sadak walla Mukhya Mantri (A Chief Minister who makes roads)," Mr Thakur says. "Youth or old......it all depends on which situation you have to deliver. Now, look at Himachal Pradesh, we have law and order situation. The state has a debt of over Rs 50,000 crore, now who can take out the state from such a situation. Dhumalji has the experience and in this Himachal state only, during his period, the state kept on winning awards for developments," he notes. Mr Dhumal does not mince words when it comes to talking about Mr Modi and their relationship. "Modiji has been always a guide, philosopher and a friend". The veteran politician also waxes eloquently highlighting some inside political machinations very well. "Great thing about Modiji is that he is very objective.....He will call spade a spade," he told . Political observers in Hamirpur and including several BJP workers here say -- there is lot of political message in Mr Dhumal's "well guarded words". Is he referring to two foremost rivals within the BJP -- the veteran Shanta Kumar and Union Health Minister J P Nadda? UNI

Hamirpur, Nov 6: Emergence of radical Islam is a "big threat", a key BJP leader in Himachal Pradesh, Anurag Thakur has said here and maintained that issues like Love Jihad is not mere a communal or a conversion issue as it is leading to "somewhere else".
"Of course Love Jihad is not merely conversion....See, Love Jihad is leading to somewhere else," Mr Thakur told .
"It is not just to convert...It is to convert and use them against national security. Its a threat to the national security. You can't just limit it to a communal-secular debate. The thought process behind Love Jihad is to radicalise youth and the strategy is to use them against the security of the nation," he said.
Answering questions, the Hamirpur MP and son on senior BJP leader P K Dhumal, further said, "I think there should be a clarity on this".
He said what has emerged lately is that all the states -- irrespective of party affiliation -- must take nation security seriously.
"Now you have statistics...radical Islam is a threat. What has come out show that all the states should be concerned. Because law and order is a state subject. There should not be vote bank politics on it. This is directly linked to country's security," he said.
In this context, he further said, what is emerging is pro-nationalist thinking of the electorate in Himachal Pradesh, "is not merely guided by Hindutva....It is guided by concern for national security".
To a question on what will be priorities of the BJP government once election process and counting of votes is over by December 18; Mr Thakur said, "What we are promising today is good governance and development".
"The pitch here is singularly about development, because people have made up their mind. The Congress regime will be out and they want to know, what BJP will bring. We are firm about bringing development," he said.
The lawmaker also justified BJP's attack on the Congress party and therefore said, "In election atmosphere, it cannot go just talking about our perception about development. We also have to tell people, where Congress has derailed the track and how the state has failed."
That is why, he said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is telling people during campaign that the Chief Minister (Virbhadra Singh) is on bail. There is mafia-raj....We will need to tackle all these. Therefore, the BJP leadership - PM Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah has pitched for an experienced person in the form of Mr Dhumal, also a former Chief Minister".
"Ek engine ab Delhi mein hoga (Narendra Modi) aur Dhumal Shimla mein. Double engine chalegi (One engine of development will be in Delhi in the form of Modi and the other Dhumal in Shimla. Himachal will be led by double engines)," he said.
To a question, he said, "age may not matter" --- in terms of delivering development. "Youth or old......it all depends on which situation you have to deliver. Now, look at Himachal Pradesh, we have law and order situation. The state has a debt of over Rs 50,000 crore, now who can take out the state from such a situation".
"Dhumalji has the experience and in this Himachal state only, during his period, the state kept on winning awards of development," Mr Thakur said. UNI

Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, Nov 3: Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi may shift his parliamentary constituency from Amethi, a BJP leader said.
Unlike Congress, the BJP does not give mere lip service to its commitment about women reservation in electoral politics and that is why saffron party has dropped two sitting MLAs in Himachal Pradesh and given tickets to women, BJP leader and local MP Anurag Thakur has said here.
'We are not like Sonia Gandhi. BJP is more than serious about women quota and hence women candidates have been fielded from Palampur and Bhorang. We have to face internal rebellion for this but credit ought to be given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP Chief Amit Shah,' Mr Thakur told UNI in reference to party's decision to field Indu Goswami from Palampur and another woman candidate Kamlesh Kumari from Bhorang.
BJP sources said there are some rebellion in the saffron camp after disgruntled leaders decided to contest as independents.
In Palampur, Praveen Sharma is the rebel candidate and is also known for close proximity to veteran leader Shanta Kumar.
On the other hand in Bhorang constituency, the party decided to field Kamlesh Kumari depriving ticket to Anil Dhiman.
Incidentally, Mr Dhiman is known as a confidant of Dhumal camp.
In this context, Mr Thakur also said the Prime Minister has shown political sincerity in empowering women and said Mr Modi would be the best remembered in days to come for giving berths to two women leaders i n cabinet committee on security ...Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman.
Answering questions, Mr Thakur said all hype about Mr Gandhi and his revival journey would end after December 18 -- the day votes would be counted in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
'Congress is heading for political shock. It will be a major achievement for Rahul Gandhi to retain Amethi in 2019. But I presume, he may shift his constituency,' Mr Thakur said.
He further claimed that once Congress looses out in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, senior Congress leaders 'feeling suffocated' in the grand old party will look for better options.
To another question, Mr Thakur also said naming 83-year-old Virbhadra Singh as the Congress Chief Ministerial face was only to 'create cushion' for Mr Gandhi for the imminent rout. UNI

Hamirpur (Himachal), Nov 3: In the midst of intense political battle between BJP and Congress in the run up to Assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh, within saffron camp, the Dhumal-Anurag Thakur camp seemed to have won a major battle against their rivals.
Voters and BJP supporters in this key political and educational hub of Hamirpur feel the announcement by BJP chief Amit Shah anointing P K Dhumal as chief ministerial face has given boost to BJP campaign and also 'a clear message to rivals Shanta Kumar and J P Nadda'.
Besides Mr Dhumal's claim, names of veteran Shanta Kumar and union Health Minister J P Nadda were also considered by Mr Shah and Prime Minister for BJP's Chief Ministerial face.
But in the ultimate analysis announcement in favour of two time CM shows Mr Dhumal matters a lot in the state politics and he is the only one among BJP top guns who can take on incumbent Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, also a popular Thakur leader.
In Hamirpur, common voters feel this has also helped to give a much-needed push to Mr Dhumal's parliamentarian son and local MP Anurag Thakur.
The lawmaker is himself shy about developments going around him and describes himself only a party 'karyakarta', but several citizens and party workers say BJP central leaders' move to push the case of 73 -year old Dhumal ...will in the long run give political edge to Anurag Thakur as well.
'Contrary to a theory being circulated....even after reaching 75 Mr Dhumal will not be pushed out. This will allow Anurag Thakur time to build up his case with the party organisation,' says city-based educationist Mayur Kumar Singh.
In fact, to many BJP supporters, Anurag Thakur will be a key interlocutor between common people or cadres and the Chief Minister. 'People are already making a beeline before Anurag with their grievances and requests and want these to be resolved once Dhumal is back in power', says Prithvi Kashyap, a local meat seller.
For his part, Anurag seems to understand this well and on this backdrop told UNI - 'People's expectations are definitely high. Therefore, the BJP government will have to deliver much between December 2017 and April-May 2019 - when country will go for next Lok Sabha elections.' UNI
