Ahmedabad, Nov 27: Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister and the BJP’s prominent Patidar face Nitin Patel on Monday filed his nomination papers from Mehsana seat in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Mehsana is a Patidar-dominated district in North Gujarat and has been a hotbed of the community’s reservation stir and is also being considered as the nerve-centre in the state.
Before filing his paper, he along with Mr Chouhan addressed a rally.
A 5-time member of Gujarat assembly, he had first contested from Kadi seat in 1990. Except in 2002, he won all the elections. Four times he emerged victorious from Kadi seat while one time from Mehsana.
He had to switch over to Mehsana in 2012 after the Kadi seat was reserved for the scheduled castes.
Mr Patel has held many portfolios namely finance, health, revenue among others. In August this year, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
The voting in Mehsana will be held in the second phase on December 14.
The election to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will take place in two phases — December 9 and 14 — and votes will be counted on December 18. UNI
