Lucknow,
Nov 8: Demonetisation heaped misery on the country’s 125 crore population
and only a handful of politicians and industrialists benefitted from the
draconian move by the Centre, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo said on
Wednesday here.
“November 8, 2016 was a bad day in the history of the country and an emergency-like situation prevailed for the next one to two months, when people had to queue up outside banks to withdraw their own money," she said. In a written statement, Ms Mayawati said the act of the Narendra Modi government one year ago was “immature and lacked preparedness.” She also suggested that the BJP should have celebrated the anniversary as 'notebandi waiver day' rather than holding ‘black money day’. She further alleged that corruption in the country had increased after demonetisation. “Corruption in all areas has increased manifold in the present BJP regime, particularly after demonetisation, and the Paradise Papers leak is a glaring example," she said.
