Delhi, Nov 16: With Delhi air pollution out of the severe category for the
two consecutive days, the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) on
Thursday directed to withdraw some of the emergency measure it had imposed
following toxic air quality.
EPCA Chairman Bhure Lal on Thursday wrote to chief secretaries of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana asking them that emergency measures can be lifted with immediate effect as the prevailing air quality does not require tough action. Citing improvement in air quality in the national capital, Mr Bhure Lal in his letter addressed to Delhi Chief Secretary MM Kutty, said its ban order of November 8, which included to stop all construction activities, entry of truck traffic into Delhi(except those of essential commodities ) and enhancement of parking fees by four times can be lifted with immediate effect looking in view of the present situation. “We are watching the situation very carefully and we have been informed by the Indian Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology that pollution level may rise again because of increased moisture in the air in the coming days,” the Chairman of the Supreme Court empowered body stated. On Wednesday, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot had written to the EPCA, requesting to advice NCR town to implement Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) including Odd-Even scheme along with Delhi.
