New Delhi, Jul 9: Schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) must emulate the model of Delhi government-run schools in terms of making much-needed improvements to facilities and teaching methods, noted a parents' satisfaction survey conducted by ASSOCHAM.

The state governments of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Rajasthan having thirteen, seven and two districts that, along with NCT of Delhi, make up the NCR, must take a cue from Delhi government and allocate large chunk of their budget to education, according to the survey conducted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) and Social Development Foundation (ASDF).

The industry body interacted with about 3,250 parents in districts falling in NCR whose children are studying in local government schools.

The survey was conducted during summer holidays in May-June to ascertain the views of people in general about their level of satisfaction in government schools of their respective districts.

"Almost all the parents were of the view that Delhi government is doing a commendable job for bringing overall improvement in the school education as every parent wants schools with good amount of facilities in their own area.

"Many of them said that through various media reports and views of their relatives and known people they have learnt about Delhi government model of schools that have undergone a metamorphosis of late," the survey said.

Releasing the findings of the survey, ASSOCHAM secretary general D S Rawat said, A lot is being done in the education sector both at the Centre and state government levels in Delhi. With Delhi government providing state-of-the-art facilities, improving infrastructure and quality of education, other state governments must follow suit to help shape a bright future for our children.

During the survey parents were also asked about how satisfied they were with various aspects of the school their child currently attended, including the school overall, the teachers, academic standards, order and discipline, facilities and the way the school staff interacted with parents.

"Majority of respondents in all the districts said there were many areas that need to be improved. Some said that proactive approach was needed to ensure wholesome development of children, equal focus on education and extracurricular activities, conducting classes in creative writing, dance, theatre, fine arts and other such subjects by hiring specialised teachers," the survey report said.

New Delhi, Jun 14: The air quality in Delhi remained beyond the "severe" level for the third day today, as authorities warned the dusty conditions are likely to prevail for another 3-4 days and advised people to avoid staying outdoors for long hours.
The air quality deteriorated because of dust storms in western India, particularly Rajasthan, which increased coarser particles in the air, the Central Pollution Control Board said.
The PM10 level (presence of particles with diameter less than 10mm) was beyond severe at 796 in Delhi-NCR and 830 in Delhi particularly, leading to hazy conditions.
According to the CPCB, the air quality index - a measurement of the concentration of toxic particulate matter in the air - at several places in Delhi remained beyond the 500-mark, with east Delhi's Anand Vihar area recording a PM10 level of 929 and PM2.5 level of 301 this morning.
An AQI between 0-50 is considered "Good", 51-100 "Satisfactory", 101-200 "Moderate", 201-300 "Poor", 301-400 "Very Poor", and 401-500 "Severe".
The wind blowing in the region has contributed to the spread of dust particles. According to the Met department, wind speed reaching up to 35 kmph is predicted for today in Delhi. The dust-laden winds have created a haze in Delhi-NCR since yesterday.
The Environment Ministry has said the dusty conditions are likely to prevail for the next three days. It has alerted construction agencies, municipal corporations and Delhi Pollution Control Committee to ensure water sprinkling.
The CPCB said pollution this summer is very different from last year. In November, both PM2.5 and PM10 spiked in the Delhi-NCR region, posing serious health hazard to residents.
However, the increase in pollution levels now is mainly due to drastic increase in coarse particles in air. This time the PM2.5, ultra-fine particles that may reach lungs and affect its functioning, is not as high as that of November last year.
A Sudhakar, CPCB member-secretary, warned residents that the pollution level is expected remain like this for 3-4 days and people are requested to avoid staying outdoors for more than 3 to 4 hours.
"There could be discomfort or breathing difficulties due to the pollution," Sudhakar said.
"We have also called a meeting of construction companies and if the beyond severe condition persist we would stop the construction activities," he said.
At an urgent meeting yesterday, the CPCB yesterday directed agencies concerned to contain local dust sources. The Environment Ministry too has requested the Delhi chief secretary to issue instructions to the agencies concerned.

With an increasing retail store space of 5 million sq ft, Delhi’s retail sector will be the biggest driver of demand for sales talent. Other sectors like hospitality, real estate, etc. will push the demand for sales talent significantly.  UNI

New Delhi, March 29: Most cyber frauds in business process outsourcing (BPO) sector in India occur due to lack of strict implementation of existing information security protocols and lack of awareness of the employee, a recent survey jointly conducted by industry body ASSOCHAM and software major Microsoft said.
The survey was conducted in Delhi-NCR and Kolkata to ascertain the level of awareness regarding cyber frauds among people employed in the sector.
It was noted that awareness about cyber frauds was low among fresher and job applicants, but it was relatively higher in experienced employees.
Highlighting the poor levels of awareness among fresher and job applicants, the survey noted that perceptions about cyber frauds are mostly driven by word of mouth and media. Besides, the predominant perception for causes of cyber frauds is the growing shift of online transactions — from shopping to banking and consumers' growing trust on Internet and its safety nets.
While enough measures exist in the BPO sector to keep a check on cyber frauds, it is the lack of seriousness at the organisational level towards the issue which is the root cause to the problem as casual attitude is often passed down to employees, according to the survey.
It was also revealed that there is certain casualness, as the general feeling is that most cyber frauds occur on a larger scale, and the security staff is not aware of implications of not following proper protocols.
The survey also suggested immediate steps to drive home seriousness about cyber frauds - including comprehensive session on cyber fraud in induction programme, implement stringent security measures, install strong antivirus systems, organise sessions on ethical practices, implement training and development programmes. UNI

New Delhi, Nov 16: With Delhi air pollution out of the severe category for the two consecutive days, the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) on Thursday directed to withdraw some of the emergency measure it had imposed following toxic air quality.
EPCA Chairman Bhure Lal on Thursday wrote to chief secretaries of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana asking them that emergency measures can be lifted with immediate effect as the prevailing air quality does not require tough action. Citing improvement in air quality in the national capital, Mr Bhure Lal in his letter addressed to Delhi Chief Secretary MM Kutty, said its ban order of November 8, which included to stop all construction activities, entry of truck traffic into Delhi(except those of essential commodities ) and enhancement of parking fees by four times can be lifted with immediate effect looking in view of the present situation. “We are watching the situation very carefully and we have been informed by the Indian Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology that pollution level may rise again because of increased moisture in the air in the coming days,” the Chairman of the Supreme Court empowered body stated. On Wednesday, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot had written to the EPCA, requesting to advice NCR town to implement Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) including Odd-Even scheme along with Delhi. New Delhi, Nov 7: The tussle between the Centre and state governments over who will invest in mechanising stubble removal is prolonging the problem of straw burning which has led to alarming rise in pollution levels in the NCR region, agriculture sources. Stubble burning is basically done by farmers to instantly remove the residue from the previous harvest to prepare the field for the next crop. Farmers in Punjab and Haryana are resorting to straw burning after harvesting paddy to sow early variety of wheat in the ongoing rabi season.
The Punjab government has been raising the issue of stubble burning with the Centre. Recently when Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was in Delhi, he raised the issue with Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.  Punjab and Haryana farmers maintain that rice is not the staple diet of the state. They started growing paddy in the 60's only to meet the requirement of the Central government for distribution of rice under the Public Distribution System and therefore, the Central government should invest in stubble removal machines which may have to be imported. The burning of stubble forms a residue that is high in carbon-dioxide and the carbon particles combined with moisture (dew) in winters become potent.
"The only way to prevent stubble burning by farmers is to invest in modified and modern combine-harvester machines that not only shred the straw and mulch it, but also sequesters it to work as compost in the field," sources said. The problem of paddy stray burning is more acute in Punjab which grows as much 2.8 million tonnes of non-Basmati rice and is the major contributor to the central pool.  Punjab and Haryana farmers use combine-harvesters to harvest their crop through custom hiring which leaves straw and weeds in the field. While other states may use the straw as fodder, the progressive farmers in these states grow green manure to take care of fodder needs of cattle.  According to experts, experiments to use straw and farm residue for generation of energy too did not take off as the there were silicon deposits in the boilers and the requisite temperature of electricity could not be achieved.
