Pawar on Thursday met sugarcane farmers family who were injured in police
firing on Wednesday.
Ahmednagar district is known for co-operative factory and there are around 23 cooperative factories have turned into violence Wednesday evening, when sugarcane farmers who were agitated under the leadership of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna demanding an increase in the fare and remunerative price (FRP). The agitation took a violent turn in Shevgaon region with police firing plastic bullets, lobbing teargas and resorting to lathi charges to rein in restive protestors. The villagers also alleged that except Hazare and Ajit Pawar, no any leader of political party has come to meet the injured -- neither nagar district guardian Minister Ram Shinde nor MP Dilip Gandhi bothered to come to them for their rescue. Mr Pawar first visited hospital where farmers are being treated and inquired about their health. He also held meeting with farmers at Ghotan and Khanapur at Shevgaon taluka on Thursday. He said he would raise an issue at the winter session of Assembly. Parts of Ahmednagar, Aurangabad and Solapur districts, especially the Shevgaon-Paithan stretch, witnessed fierce melees between farmers and the police, with the later taking recourse to firing to disperse agitators, Wednesday evening.
