New Delhi/Gurugram, Nov 9: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday continued interrogation of a 16-year-old student of Ryan International School of Gurgaon held on Tuesday night for allegedly murdering seven year old schoolmate Pradyuman Thakur on September 8.
On the other hand, Gurugram Police Commissioner Sandeepa Kherwar at a news conference today refuted the charge that police had botched up the probe, saying that they‘’were moving logically in the direction where the evidence led.’’ He said the police was not given time to complete the probe, and now that the probe was in CBI hand, they would not comment on the evidence on which the agency had held the 16-year-old boy for the murder. The accused was arrested from his Gurugaram residence at around 2330 hrs on Tuesday night, after a thorough investigation, including CCTV footage and forensic evidence, it added. Mr Khirwar said they were not were not given the forensic report, and they had handed over all the evidence to the CBI. Earlier, Haryana police had arrested Ashok Kumar, a bus conductor, who was working with the school for the past eight months for the murder. But yesterday’s announcement by the CBI that the juvenile had confessed to killing Pradyuman has given a new twist to the case. The case was handed over to the CBI after parents of the victim expressed dissatisfaction over the probe being done by the Haryana police and civil society pressure also mounted on the government.
The CBI had registered the case on September 22. Pradyuman was found lying in a pool of blood on the morning of September 8, with his throat slit in one of the school's toilets. The body bore cut marks at various places. A knife was recovered from the spot, which was later confirmed as the weapon used in the crime. According to the CBI, the juvenile assaulted Pradyuman to create a situation in the campus, which could lead to postponement of his upcoming examination and the impending parent teacher meet. However, the investigating agency could not further elaborate the motive behind the killing despite persistent questioning from the media. UNI
