Srinagar,
Nov 10: Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge
to disperse demonstrators trying to disrupt search operation in north Kashmir
district of Bandipora on Friday.
Official sources said immediately after security forces launched a search operation at Bangar Mohalla, Hajin Bandipora, local residents in the nearby areas hit the streets, raising slogans. However, when the demonstrators tried to move towards the cordoned off area, the security forces and state police personnel already deployed there immediately swung into action. When the demonstrators refused to disperse, security forces resorted to lathicharge which had no impact as the mob continued stone pelting. Later, security forces burst teargas shells as demonstrators were re-grouping again and pelting stones. Shops and business establishments in the affected areas remained closed and traffic off the roads. Security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation in the area this morning following a tip-off about the presence of militants. UNI
