SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 02: A day-long workshop on ‘Situational
Analysis of Services and Referral Systems for Rehabilitation’ was organized by
Hope Disability Centre, Voluntary Medicare Society and Handicap International
at IMPA, Srinagar to observe International Day of Persons with Disability.
The purpose of the workshop was to contribute towards building a
stronger system for rehabilitation by reviewing and validating the findings of
a situation analysis of the sector and proposing recommendations for actions to
improve the rehabilitation system within Kashmir division over time.
Director Social Welfare, Hashmat Yatoo, who was chief guest of
the function, congratulated the Hope Disability Centre for starting the
initiative to help the disabled people and also making the society aware about
dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
"People with disabilities feel restricted to exercise their
faculties on an equal basis with others, particularly in the domains of
employment, education, social as well as political participation," Director
said, adding that the society should be committed to promoting empowerment,
provision of opportunities and equal participation for the persons with
disabilities.
Executive Director Hope Disability Centre, Sami Wani, Inclusion
Coordinator Handicap International, Annie Patri and Monitoring and Evaluation
Manager Handicap International, Muddasir and other dignitaries were present on
the occasion.
The workshop concluded with the release of a survey conducted by
the NGO on disabled people in Kashmir Division.
