Delhi, Dec 22: The Congress Working Committee will meet on Friday to
welcome the elevation of Rahul Gandhi as party president and the impressive
performance by the party in the Gujarat polls.
Sources said the CWC, the highest decision making body of the
Congress, will also discuss the verdict of the special CBI court in the 2G
case, acquitting all the accused in the case. Congress has said the verdict of the court vindicates its stand that there were no irregularities in the allocation of 2G spectrum during the UPA rule at the Centre.
The Congress has said it will take the 2G issue to the people. The CWC, the party's highest decision-making body, is also likely to adopt a resolution to this effect.
It will be the first meeting of the CWC chaired by Mr Gandhi as Congress president.
Sources said the CWC will discuss the ramifications of the trial court verdict in the 2G spectrum scam.
They said the Committee is likely to pass a resolution defending former prime minister Manmohan Singh over the 2G issue.
The Congress yesterday demanded an apology from Prime Minister narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for besmirching the reputation of the previous UPA Governmet on the 2G issue in order to come to power.
The meeting is also likely to discuss the ongoing standoff in Parliament between the government and the Opposition over the Congress' demand for an apology from PM over his allegations against Dr Singh accusing him of conspiring with some current and former Pakistani officials to influence the Gujarat polls.
