Kanyakumari, Dec 2: Panic and tension gripped the coastal hamlets of Cyclone Ockhi-ravaged Kanyakumari district, as 1,000 fishermen who had ventured
into the deep seas were reportedly missing.
The fishermen had ventured into the sea in around 100 boats
four days back and have not returned, their family members claimed on Saturday.
A large number of fishermen-women staged a road-roko agitation at Chinnathurai coastal hamlet demanding the government to intensify aerial searches and rescue operations to rescue the missing fishermen. Meanwhile, official sources said the Indian Coast Guard rescued 32 fishermen hailing from Kanyakumari, who were stranded on the high seas. The fishermen were brought to Thrissur in Kerala. They will be transported to their respective native places by road. UNI
