JAMMU,
DECEMBER 21: Election Commission of India (ECI) today conducted semifinal round
of Quiz competition at Teachers Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
The competition, aimed
at to educate youth regarding the importance of enrolling oneself for voting,
was organized by the ECI and Department of Education J&K is working as
nodal agency in conducting these programs.
The
Quiz was attended by the students from 21 districts and the selected students
will participate in ECI National Quiz which is to be held in New Delhi soon.
Chief
Electoral Officer, J&K, Shaleen Kabra, said that these events are an
attempt to create awareness about the Indian Election system and function of
democracy in the country besides engaging young students in the age group of
14-17 years the future voters, in a self-learning exercise about the electoral
process so as to build an informed electorate in near future. He added that
right to vote is a biggest right that a citizen of this nation enjoys and it
must be utilized in an earnest manner.
Joint
Chief Electoral Officer, Raman Kesar, while throwing light on the details of
the quiz, said that it was organized in three tier processes which started from
intra school competitions and topper of state level competition will compete at
national level.
Among others, Deputy CEOs Jammu, Kashmir and other Senior Officers of election
and education Department were present on the occasion.
