Delhi, Nov 30: After a disappointing slow down in the first quarter, the
GDP growth rose to 6 point 3 per cent in the second quarter of 2017-18,
bringing cheer to the Modi government facing Opposition attack over GST and
demonetisation.
The rise in the country’s economic growth comes after the
decline to 5.7 per cent in the quarter ending June."This marks a reversal of the direction which is very encouraging," chief statistician of India Dr TCA Anant said here releasing the growth figure.
He said some sectors like manufacturing, electricity, trade and hotels and transport had done well.
He, however, said agriculture sector figures were not good well this year as compared to last year’s production.
Dr Anant said the improvement in growth had come after five quarters. UNI
