Washington, Aug 8: India is a source of growth for the global economy for the next few decades and it could be what China was for the world economy, the IMF said today, as it suggested the country to take steps towards more structural reforms.

"India now contributes, in purchasing power parity measures, 15 per cent of the growth in the global economy, which is substantial," Ranil Salgado, International Monetary Fund's mission chief for India, told. This is next to only China and the US, he said.

Salgado said spillovers from India are not that big because it is not a very open economy.

"But of total global growth in Purchasing power parity (PPP) terms, it's 15 per cent of total global growth. Trading is not as high as China trade levels," Salgado said as the IMF Executive Board released the report of its annual consultations with India.

He said the IMF views India as a "long run source of global growth".

"India has three decades before it hits the point where the working age population starts to decline. So that's a long time. This is India's window of opportunity in Asia. It's somewhat only a few other Asian countries have this," he said.

"For the (next) three decades, it (India) is a source of growth for the global economy and could be even longer. But three decades where India can be almost what China was for the world economy for a while," Salgado said.

In its report, the IMF Executive Board has forecast India's growth to rise to 7.3 per cent in FY2018/19 and 7.5 per cent in FY2019/20, on strengthening investment and robust private consumption.

"The Indian economy is recovering from the two shocks that started from late 2016: demonetisation and then the kind of implementation issues related to the GST. We see growth recovering. Generally, India is benefiting from good macroeconomic policies; stability-oriented policies as well as some important reforms that have been done in recent years," he said.

Although there are short term issues, the IMF views that as a long-term major gain for India by implementing a national GST.

"It's something that's difficult to do. Other countries have struggled. In India it's much more complex because you have a 29 states and union territories and you need agreement. I think that that was a great achievement," he said.

Insolvency and the bankruptcy code is the other big achievement, he said. "We are seeing certain positive steps there and we hope that can continue," he said.

"The third (big achievement) from an economist's point of view is the inflation targeting framework that you now have in the Reserve Bank of India, formally adopted in 2016 but informally even earlier. We have seen the benefits of that have lower inflation and inflation expectations," he said.

And then there are some of the key smaller steps like things to improve the business climate, steps to further liberalised FDI.

"In the near term, it's just to make sure that effective implementation of those are ongoing. If you think of the insolvency and bankruptcy code, it's a difficult change. Basically, the underlying system to resolve bad assets from the corporate sector side is something new. It takes time and experience has to be gained. And we're seeing some of the hitches along the way there, but generally things seem to be moving in the right direction," the senior IMF official said.

Noting that the government is taking steps to "streamline and simplify" the GST, he said the IMF believes that this is important. "Overall we're seeing efforts to improve the balance sheet of banks as well as corporate sector. In our view, these are all important things that need to continue," he said.

Salgado said that for India, things are relatively positive. "India has a young population. It has the potential for a demographic dividend of the next three decades," he said but quickly cautioned that demographic dividend is not automatic.

"It takes good policies to create jobs, to create even stronger economic growth. Seven to eight per cent growth is very good. It's one of the best in the world. But for India, which is appropriately aspiring to quickly catch up with the richer advanced countries, you need even stronger growth," he said in response to a question.

"So if you think about China, China had double digit growth for many years and that's how we quickly caught out and that's something we should aspire to as well. Because if that doesn't occur, there is the risk that India could grow old before it becomes rich," he said, noting that the IMF is now suggesting India to take steps towards structural reforms.

"The second message we are saying that steps to structural reforms have to continue and, in some ways, have to even take a step further up," he said identifying labour reforms, improving the business climate, and enhancing infrastructure as key areas for continued reforms.

And finally it is importantly to finish the cleanup of bank and corporate sector balance sheets, he said.

Mumbai, Aug 2: Maintaining its uptrend for the second straight day, the rupee strengthened by 17 paise to a fresh one-month high of 68.26 against the US dollar today after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) maintained its growth outlook for the economy.

The RBI projected a gross domestic product (GDP) expansion rate of 7.4 per cent in 2018-19 on the back of robust macroeconomic environment.

Increased selling of the greenback by exporters and banks even as the RBI hiked repo rate by 25 basis points yesterday too boosted the rupee, forex dealers said.

The dollar, however, strengthened against some currencies overseas after the US Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged, capping the domestic unit's gains, they added.

Yesterday, the rupee had gained 11 paise against the US currency to end at a fresh two-week high of 68.43.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex was trading lower by 148.54 points, or 0.39 per cent, at 37,521.62 in opening trade.

Mumbai, Aug 1: The Reserve Bank today retained the GDP forecast for the current fiscal at 7.4 per cent on robust corporate earnings and buoyant rural demand, though it flagged global trade tensions for Indian exports.

In the third bi-monthly monetary policy statement for 2018-19, RBI said various indicators suggest that economic activity has continued to be strong.

The statement issued after three-day meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) noted that the progress of the monsoon so far and a sharper than the usual increase in MSPs of kharif crops are expected to boost rural demand by raising farmers' income.

"Robust corporate earnings, especially of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies, also reflect buoyant rural demand," the central bank said, adding that investment activity remains firm even as there has been some tightening of financing conditions in the recent period.

Based on an overall assessment, the Reserve Bank of India said that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth projection for 2018-19 is retained, as in the June statement, at 7.4 per cent.

As per the RBI, the growth would be in the range of 7.5-7.6 per cent in first half of the fiscal and 7.3-7.4 per cent in October-March 2018-19 period "with risks evenly balanced".

The central has also projected the GDP growth for first quarter of the next financial year at 2019-20 at 7.5 per cent.

The monetary policy statement further said that increased FDI flows in recent months and continued buoyant domestic capital market conditions bode well for investment activity.

The central bank said that activity in the manufacturing sector is expected to remain robust in Q2, though there may be some moderation in pace.

Rising trade tensions may, however, have an adverse impact on India's exports.

Washington, Jul 26: In a significant development, the US and the European Union have agreed to iron out trade dispute through negotiations and put on hold the tariff war while they talk through their differences.

The move came after a meeting between US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker here yesterday.

Addressing a joint press conference in the Rose Garden at the White House, the two leaders agreed to begin discussions on eliminating the tariffs and subsidies that hamper trade across the Atlantic.

We met right here at the White House to launch a new phase in the relationship between the US and the European Union -- a phase of close friendship; of strong trade relations in which both of us will win; of working better together for global security and prosperity; and of fighting jointly against terrorism, Trump told reporters.

This is a significant development because the US and the EU together count for more than 50 per cent of the global GDP.

Together, we are more than 50 per cent of trade. If we team up, we can make our planet a better, more secure and more prosperous place, Trump said.

The US president said both the parties have agreed to work together toward zero tariffs, zero non-tariff barriers and zero subsidies on non-auto industrial goods.

We will also work to reduce barriers and increase trade in services, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical products, as well as soybeans...This will open markets for farmers and workers, increase investment, and lead to greater prosperity in both the US and the EU," he said.

It will also make trade fairer and more reciprocal, Trump added.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation on energy. "The EU will build more terminals to import liquefied natural gas from the US," Juncker said.

They also agreed to work closely together to reform the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and to address unfair trading practices, including intellectual property theft, forced technology transfer, industrial subsidies, distortions created by state-owned enterprises and overcapacity.

Meanwhile, welcoming the decision, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde said, The global economy can benefit only when countries engage constructively to resolve trade and investment disagreements without resort to exceptional measures.

The US Chambers of Commerce also hailed the move. We welcome an open US-EU dialogue so that leaders can work quickly to reverse the damage caused by tariffs, executive vice president and head of international affairs at the US Chambers of Commerce Myron Brilliant said.

American businesses are ready to get back to the work of creating jobs and driving the economy instead of worrying about the implications of a burgeoning trade war, he added.

The US House Committee on Ways and Means chairman, Kevin Brady, congratulated Trump for reaching the vitally important and timely agreement with Juncker. The committee is the chief tax-writing panel of the US House of Representatives.

This start is an excellent news...By moving the EU to work with us to address China's unfair trade and to reform the WTO, the President and his team have fundamentally changed the trading environment in a way that will benefit all Americans," Brady said.

Qingdao (China), Jun 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here today on a two-day visit primarily to attend the annual summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) which is likely to deliberate on several pressing global issues including future of Iran nuclear deal, the impact of US sanctions on Russia and situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
It is Modi's second visit to China in little over five weeks. He was in the Chinese city of Wuhan on April 27 and 28 to attend an informal summit with President Xi Jinping.
Diplomats said the summit is also likely to explore ways to deepen cooperation among the SCO member countries in dealing with threats of terrorism, extremism, and radicalisation besides delving into issues relating to trade, investment, and connectivity.
It is for the first time the Indian prime minister will be attending the SCO summit after India along with Pakistan became a full-fledged members of the grouping, jointly dominated by China and Russia, which has been increasingly seen as a counter to NATO.
The SCO currently has eight member countries which represents around 42 per cent of the world's population and 20 per cent of the global GDP.
Besides Modi, other leaders attending the summit in this picturesque coastal city of China's Shandong province include President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain.
In his address at the SCO Modi, is likely to articulate India's position on dealing with major challenges facing the world including ways to tackle terrorism, and boosting trade and investment in the region.
The summit in this Chinese port city is taking place under the shadow of Washington's pull out from the Iran nuclear deal, its sanction regime against Russia and frictions with China over the trade tariff dispute and diplomats said all these issues may figure at the summit as well as during deliberations on its sidelines.
In the wake of Washington's strained ties with Russia, China and Iran, officials said the SCO summit will provide an opportunity for President Xi and his Russian counterpart Putin to reflect on a common vision for the region and present the bloc as a powerful voice to deal with pressing global issues.
The situation in the Indo-Pacific may figure in the talks but it is unlikely that the issue will find a mention in the SCO outcome document.
Officials said the US pull out from the Iran nuclear deal, Washington's sanctions against Russia under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) may also figure in the talks. The sanctions have impacted Russia's defence cooperation with a number of countries including India.
The SCO leaders are also expected to review the situation in the Korean peninsula, Afghanistan and Syria.
Officials said India will pitch for evolving effective ways to deal with the growing challenge of terrorism and enhancing security cooperation among SCO countries.
India is also keen on deepening its security-related cooperation with the SCO and its Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure (RATS) which specifically deals with issues relating to security and defence.
India was an observer at the SCO since 2005 and has generally participated in the ministerial-level meetings of the grouping which focus mainly on security and economic cooperation in the Eurasian region.
The officials said India is also likely to focus on importance of regional connectivity projects to boost trade among members of the SCO countries.
India has been strongly pushing for connectivity projects like the Chabahar port project and International North-South Transport Corridor to gain access to resource-rich central Asian countries.
Modi is expected to hold nearly half a dozen bilateral meetings with leaders of other SCO countries. However, there is no official word on whether there will be any interaction between Modi and Pakistan President Hussain, who is scheduled to attend the meeting in China.
The SCO was founded at a summit in Shanghai in 2001 by the presidents of Russia, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan became its members last year.

New Delhi, Jun 8: India's GDP growth is likely to cross 8 per cent in the next two years and the government is taking a number of steps including formulation of a new industrial policy to double the economy's size to USD 5 trillion in 7-8 years, Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu said today.
"We are working on few strategies to boost economic growth. We are now seeing an upsurge," he told reporters here while talking about the achievements of the government during the last four years.
Prabhu exuded confidence that the growth in 2018-19 will be better than the preceding fiscal.
"I should not be surprised that in the next few quarters, say next 2 years for sure, we will be very close to or cross 8 per cent growth and that is coming out of strong performance of so many sectors," he said.
India's GDP grew at the fastest pace in seven quarters at 7.7 per cent in the January-March quarter of last fiscal, retaining the fastest growing major economy tag on robust performance by manufacturing and service sectors as well as good farm output.
On yearly basis, however, it grew at a four-year low of 6.7 per cent in 2017-18, down from 7.1 per cent in the previous fiscal.
Prabhu said that to facilitate the 8 per cent potential growth, the government is working on several areas including formulation of a new industrial policy, "which is going to make India ready for the fourth industrial revolution and beyond".
"We have created a vision for USD 5 trillion economy in which USD one trillion will come from manufacturing, USD 3 trillion from services and USD one trillion agriculture and allied sector," he added.
When asked about the impact of the RBI's decision this week to raise the benchmark lending rate by 0.25 per cent, the minister said: "I do not think it should hamper investments".
On his US visit next week, Prabhu said that he would meet his counterpart and industry leaders and raise India's concerns about tightening visa regime in the US and its impact on Indian IT sector.
"We will be raising the visa issue because we feel that Indians and their spouses are facing some issues there," he said, adding, "we will explaining our position. It is not a formal trade talk..there is no huge expectations".
On the US challenging India's export support programmes, Prabhu said he would explain that those measures are not subsidies and instead ways to partially offset various additional costs incurred by them.
"Our export support regime is not violating any of the WTO rules," he said.
"We are also working to make sure that there is a proper clarity on this. But what we are doing today is not violating any WTO rule," he added.
On the proposed mega trade deal - Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Prabhu said India is actively engaged in the negotiations and also holding bilateral talks with member countries including China, Australia and New Zealand.
"What we are saying in RCEP is that it is a comprehensive economic partnership pact and in this services should be an integral part of the agreement," he added.

New Delhi, March 26: India will negotiate a Free Trade Agreement with the newly formed African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), says Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu.
Al.so, the government is seeking to set up a new India–Africa Development Fund which would seek to synergise the Lines of Credit as well as other export promotion and development programmes to bring about a more holistic development of the continent.
Forty-four African countries last week formed an African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) aimed at creating a single market for goods and services with free movement of businesses and investments.
Bilateral trade between India and Africa is $53 billion, which is far below potential and there is a need to step up the volume of trade as well as diversify the trade basket. In this context,
The minister said the commerce ministry was revamping export insurance and the Project Export Promotion Council to provide the much needed boost to India’s exports to Africa.
He also stressed the need for Indian companies to invest in Africa and that it was for this reason that the Asia–Africa Growth Corridor was being developed.
Moreover, the government is looking to strengthen connectivity links with Africa, especially in the area of civil aviation, Prabhu said, addressing the Exim Bank Conclave on India–Africa Project Partnership, organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Exim Bank of India and industry body CII on Sunday.
According to the African Union, the AfCFTA could create an African market of over 1.2 billion people with a GDP of 2.5 trillion dollars, the pan-African bloc said.
The AfCFTA will progressively eliminate tariffs on intra-African trade, making it easier for African businesses to trade within the continent and cater to and benefit from the growing African market. AU.
AU Chairperson and Rwanda's President Paul Kagame has said the advantages Africa gains by creating one African market will also benefit our trading partners around the world. UNI

Mumbai, Mar 24: The Maharashtra Government’s decision to ban plastic bags, pouches, beverage bottles etc is expected to affect direct employment of nearly two lakh people and indirect employment of over 4.5 lakh, including traders and recyclers, even as plastic manufacturers’ bodies have sought some time before implementing the ban.
The representatives of the All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association, the Thermoformers and Allied Industries Association and the Maharashtra Plastics Manufacturers Association are planning to meet State Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam and discuss the situation arising out of the proposed ban.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, President of the Thermoformers and Allied Industries Harshit Mehta said that the government has given a time of three to four months to those manufacturing plastic bottles. As such similar time should be given also to those engaged in manufacturing plastic bags etc so that a via media can be worked out. The manufacturers are prepared to participate in Extended Producers’ Responsibility (EPR) to ensure that no plastic garbage is in seen on the streets. There are over 3,000 manufacturers of plastic bags in Maharashtra.
“The government should work out an alternative. The use of paper bags will automatically encourage cutting of trees. Any new activity will require more water. The government should think about all these issues, before implementing the ban,” he added.
“Recently stocks of plastic and thermocol items were seized from some shops in Pune and the owners were fined. They are in a dilemma since their stocks were sealed and they were fined without any prior warning or intimation” Mehta stated.
The All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (AIPMA)’s Environment and Recycling Committee Chairman, Akhilesh Bhargava, said the ban will completely or partially shut all affiliated industries like, food, pharma, medical, garment, retail chain, etc., leading to massive unemployment. The Maharashtra government willalso lose revenue since the manufacturers may shift to other states.
As such the government should carry out proper Environment Impact Assessment and Life Cycle Analysis, before implementing or phasing out plastic.
“The Maharashtra Government has budgeted Rs 5 crore to provide free cloth bags to its citizens. This is a sign of bias towards the plastic industry, which is a prospering industry and contributes about 30 per cent of India’s GDP and around 35 per cent of Maharasthra’s GDP,” Bhargava said.
The Plastics Manufacturers Social Welfare Association President, Jagannath V Kamath, said the plastic industry size in Maharashtra is close to 2,150 units with direct employment of around 2 lakh people and indirect employment of nearly 4.5 lakh, including traders, recyclers, etc. As it is GST has badly affected the industry and now this ban will bring down the curtain on the plastic manufacturing industry.
The western state is among the largest generators of plastic waste in the country at 30 per cent. The use of plastic bags, single-use disposable items such as cups, straws, plates, forks, spoons and spreadsheets has now been prohibited. As a result, retailers and consumers are feeling the heat of the move. Under the circumstances the dairy and beverage companies are planning to formalise informal recycling initiatives, currently part of the firms’ corporate social responsibility. UNI

New Delhi, Jan 16: The selection of ten more Smart Cities will be announced shortly, Minister of State (I/C) for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep S Puri said on Tuesday.
'The Smart Cities Mission is progressing at a brisk pace. 90 cities have been selected so far. There are about 3000 projects worth Rs 1,40,000 crores at various stages of implementation,' the Minister said while addressing FICCI Smart Cities Summit 2018.
Mr Puri said Smart City Mission is setting a new benchmark in terms of project implementation. In a short duration of 2.5 years , the first round of 20 cities were selected in Jan 2016, and last 30 cities were selected as recently as June 2017 which is a small period in terms of the urban development life-cycle where transitions take place over decades.
He said ninety cities selected so far, have identified projects worth Rupee 140 lakh crore. Projects worth more than Rupee 20 thousand crore are either under implementation or have been completed.
Tenders for projects worth Rupees 16 thousand crore have been called, and more than 1 lakh crore worth of projects are being readied for issuance of tenders.
'This remains one of the fastest ever project implementations at this scale and geographic spread in urban sector,' the Minister said.
'Smart Cities Mission is a step in the direction of achieving our vision to improve the ease of living
particularly for the poor, women, elderly and differently abled people. All Indians should be able to enjoy a clean and sustainable environment. As a major player in digital revolution and a technology superpower, India must also leverage cutting edge technology to power its infrastructure, offices and homes,' Mr Puri said.
He said Economic growth and Urbanisation coexist.
'Every aspiring, developing country will attract more and more people to urban areas. India has in the past been
described as a reluctant urbaniser. Are we really so? Research shows that the urban areas contribute 65 per cent to 70 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 90 per cent of tax reception. It is imperative that we plan and support our urban areas with infrastructure, quality of life with innovation and sustainable ideas,' he said. UNI

New Delhi, Jan 10: Charging the Narendra Modi government with mismanaging the economy, the Congress on Wednesday said the government's 'Gross Economic Mismanagement' had decelerated India's growth story.
In a statement, AICC media in-charge Randeep Surjewala said, 'As Prime Minister meets his Economic Advisory Council (which has been virtually non-functional) and others to go through the motions of accessing macro economic picture, the stark truth is that Modi Govt can’t shirk from the responsibility of ‘Gross Economic Mismanagement’ that it has heaped upon our robust economy. As Modiji interacts with top economists today, his Govt's Gross Economic Mismanagement, which has decelerated the India Story, speaks volumes through the various parameters of the economy. '
In this context, he pointed out that GDP growth had slowed to a four year low, from 7.5 per cent in 2014-15 to 6.5 per cent in 2017-18 (estimated) while Gross Value Added (GVA), a true sub-measure of economic activity, had experienced a steep fall , from 7.2 per cent in 2014-15 to 6.1 per cent in 2017-18 (estimated ).
Describing the Modi government's promise of giving farmers a support price that is 50 per cent more than cost of production of a crop as the 'Biggest Hoax' played by Mr Modi on the country's ryots, who were now being forced to throw their produce on road, Mr Surjewala said, 'Dismal 1.9 per cent average Agricultural growth rate during the Modi Government is testimony to their pain. '
Mr Surjewala said that 'Make in India ' was fast becoming 'Fake in India' as manufacturing tumbled, retail inflation had soared to a 15-month-high and, fresh investment was at a 13-year-low.
'Overshooting Fiscal Deficit is a cause of concern while Bank Credit Growth is at 63 year low,' he said. UNI

New Delhi, Jan 6: Reacting to the estimated figure of the Gross Domestic Production being 6.5 per cent for the current financial year 2017-18, senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday said the worst fears and warnings of an imminent economic slowdown have come true.
'The worst fears of an imminent economic slowdown have come true. Our fears and warnings have proved true. GDP growth in 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 (estimated) is 8.0, 7.1 and 6.5 per cent. These numbers prove there is a slowdown.
The Modi government’s tall claims of India growing at a ‘robust’ growth rate have evaporated in thin air. No amount of sugar coating, false bravado and rhetoric along with headlines management can conceal the stark reality,' Mr Chidambaram said in a statement.
Mr Chidambaram said a decline in economic activity and growth meant loss of millions of jobs. 'New project announcements have declined, fresh investment is low, informal sector is still reeling under the ill-effects of demonetisation, job creation is abysmal, exports are plunging, manufacturing sector growth has slowed down, agriculture sector has been hit hard and rural despair is abundant,' he said.
The former Minister said a dispassionate assessment revealed serious weaknesses in the Indian economy.
'The growth in GDP during 2017-18 is estimated at 6.5 per cent as compared to the growth rate of 7.1 per cent in 2016-17. Anticipated growth of real GVA at basic prices in 2017-18 is 6.1 per cent as against 6.6 per cent in 2016-17.
The ‘agriculture, forestry and fishing’ sector is likely to show a growth of 2.1 per cent in its GVA during 2017-18, as against the previous year’s growth rate of 4.9 per cent. This was 1.7 per cent and 2.3 per cent respectively in the last two quarters. GVA at basic prices for 2017-18 from ‘manufacturing’ sector is estimated to grow by 4.6 per cent as compared to growth of 7.9 percent in 2016-17,' the former Finance Minister said.
Mr Chidambaram said while retail inflation soared to a 15-month high of 4.88 per cent in November and industrial output slowed to a three-month low of 2.2 per cent in October, new project announcements by Indian companies touched a 13-year low of Rs77,000 crore in the December quarter, as per the project-tracking database of the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) .
'The manufacturing sector has seen the sharpest fall in new project announcements. Overall though, the investment picture remains bleak,' Mr Chidambaram said, adding that the fiscal deficit is likely to overshoot the budget estimates of 3.2 per cent of GDP.
Terming job creation as the single biggest failure of this BJP government, Mr Chidambaram said, 'In a slowdown, how will jobs be created? And how will the promised 2 crore jobs per year be created?'
He said social discontent was a direct manifestation of this economic slowdown. 'The recent social discontent therefore can be a direct manifestation of this economic slowdown, which the government was conveniently hiding. It is time government stops making tall claims and bends down to do solid work.'
Briefing media persons here on Friday, Chief Statistician T C A Anant said Gross Domestic Production growth will be at 6.5 per cent for the current financial year 2017-18, according to advance estimates of Central Statistics Office. The GDP growth in the previous fiscal (FY 17) was at 7.1 per cent.
He added that the next two quarters of the financial year would have a GDP growth of 7 per cent which will be better than the first two quarter of the fiscal. UNI

New Delhi, Jan 6: Taking a jibe against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance minister Arun Jaitley over the estimated drop in GDP levels to 6.5 per cent this year, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said the divisive politics of Mr Modi has led to a sharp fall in the various parameters of the Indian economy.
Taking to Twitter, Rahul, pointed out towards a fall in New Investments, Bank credit Growth, Job creation and Agriculture GVA growth during the NDA rule and rise in Fiscal Deficit, he said, 'FM Jaitley’s genius combines with Mr Modi’s Gross Divisive Politics (GDP) to give India New Investments which are at a 13 year low, Bank credit Growth which is at a 63 year low, Job creation which is at a 8 year low and Agriculture GVA growth which is down to 1.7%, Fiscal Deficit which is at a 8 year high and increase in Stalled Projects'.
