Rajkot, Dec 18: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani won the Rajkot seat by a margin of 53,755 votes, defeating his Congress rival Indranil Rajguru.
As per the Election Commission data, the chief minister has got 1,31,586 votes while the Congress candidate received 77,831 votes.
In the initial trend, Mr Rupani was trailing behind his Congress rival.
There were 15 candidates in the fray.
So far, the BJP has won 68 seats while the Congress 61.
Currently, the ruling dispensation is leading in 31 seats while the main opposition in 16 seats.
Former JDU lawmaker Chhotubhai Vasava’s Bhartiye Tribal Party has won two seats out of five.
Sharad Pawar-led NCP also won one seat in this election. UNI
