Hubballi, Dec 25: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alleged that the Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikkar has violated
protocol by writting letter to BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa on Mahadayi river water sharing issue.
Replying to a question, Mr Siddaramaiah told newsmen on Monday that "BJP has been practicing political gimmicks and the
letter purported to have written by the Chief Minister of Goa to the
State BJP President has been a violation of protocol and he would
have written the letter to the Chief Minister of Karnataka or else
he would have file an affidavit to the Mahadayi Water Tribunal."
Mr Siddaramaiah said that Mr Parikkar has given a different statement after the his letter was read in a public meeting of Hubballi stating that he would wait till the election was over in Karnataka.
He said that he has full knowledge of law as he had practiced as advocate. What Yedyurappa and Jagadish Shettar knew about the legal intricacies of Mahadayi River diversion project? He asked.
Replying to a question, Mr Siddaramaiah said that the Government will not abolish the Committee constituted to study on giving separate religion status to Lingayats.
He said that no request to drop the constitution of the committee to study the feasibility of making recommendations for separate religion status for Lingayaths under State Minority Commission would be entertained.
He said that there has been a demand from Lingayaths and Veershaivas to give separate religion status to Lingayaths and already five representations were received. The Committee and consisting of the members from various walks of life will go through
the proposal thoroughly and will submit its report to him.
The Chief Minister also clarified that the committee has been carefully constituted choosing members who are away from politics.
There need not be any doubt about this committee.
Stating that he had no intention to divide any community or religion, he said that he has only been going through applications written to him.
Referring to a statement of the Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde about BJP changing Constitutional provisions, he said that it would be ridiculous to hear from a Minister about such a statement which lacked minimum knowledge of Constitution, culture and tradition of this country.
He asked the media persons whether any person who has no knowledge of Indian constitution can change the constitution itself?
The Union Minister has limited the constitution to one particular religion which not acceptable. India is a country of many religions, culture and varied way of life on the basis of which constitution has been built. UNI
