Hubballi, April 18: Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde survived a major accident on the National Highway near Halageri Village on Tuesday when a escort vehicle was hit by a speeding truck with one of his staff members injured.
The Minister was travelling in his car along with his escort and around 11.30 am and when the escort and minister’s car was near Halageri village on the National High way a truck allegedly travelling from a wrong side hit the escort vehicle, police said on wednesday.
However, the Union Minister has claimed threat to his life while saying that it was “deliberate attempt” on his life. In a twitter message he said “The vehicle had been driven in the wrong direction and was parked right in the road horizontally. As soon as our convoy approached he has driven in great speed and had tried hitting our car. As our car was running in good speed we passed away before he could ram us.”
The minister has suspected a big conspiracy on him and the police would expose the intent behind this incident. The minister also has stated that the truck driver was normal and was not under influence alcohol.
Haveri Police Superintendant has said that the driver has been arrested and his mobile phone has also been seized. It may be recalled that Mr. Hegde has been in the news for his most controversial and provocative statements. UNI


Hubballi, Karnataka, Apr 4: The Election officials in Karnataka authorities have once again proved that they will not spare even VVIPs in implementation of Election Code which is in force for May 12 polls to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and they ensured a thorough check of aircraft used by AICC President Rahul Gandhi and BJP President Amit Shah during their visits to the State. 
Immediately after arrival of AICC President Rahul Gandhi to kick start his 5th leg of election tour by special plane on Tuesday, the officials checked the aircraft and the same team headed by Nodal officer Karpale also checked another special aircraft in which BJP National President Amit Shah arrived on a day’s flying visit to Kaginele in Haveri District and Bagalkote. 
Dharwad District Deputy Commissioner S B Bommanahalli said that the checks were done as per guidelines and not with any wrong intention.
While, Mr Shah returned to national capital in the evening yesterday, Mr Rahul Gandhi on his second and final day visited Siddaganga Mutt and greeted the Swamiji whose 111th birthday was celebrated on April One and had his blessings. He will return to Delhi after addressing a public meeting at Tumakuru. UNI 


Hubballi, Feb 21: Union Minister and Senior BJP leader Anant Kumar on Tuesday said that his party will come to power in Karnataka by winning 150 seats in the election to the Legislative Assembly due in April/May.
Speaking at a function organized to give green signal for construction of six lane road on National Highway No 4, he said that BJP wave has already begun in Karnataka and the party will win 150 seats and bounce back to power. 
Criticizing the Chief Minister, he said that Siddarmaiah has remained non performing throughout five years and compared him to Kumbhakarna of Ramayana epic. 
He claimed that there has been total change in the attitude of voters of Karnataka and they are in favour of BJP Chief Ministerial Candidate B S Yeddyurappa.
The Union Minister said that under the leadership of Mr Yedyurappa in Karnataka the party has become strong and infiltrated into all parts of Karnataka. UNI


Hubballi, Dec 25: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alleged that the Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikkar has violated protocol by writting letter to BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa on Mahadayi river water sharing issue.
Replying to a question, Mr Siddaramaiah told newsmen on Monday that "BJP has been practicing political gimmicks and the letter purported to have written by the Chief Minister of Goa to the State BJP President has been a violation of protocol and he would have written the letter to the Chief Minister of Karnataka or else he would have file an affidavit to the Mahadayi Water Tribunal."
Mr Siddaramaiah said that Mr Parikkar has given a different statement after the his letter was read in a public meeting of Hubballi stating that he would wait till the election was over in Karnataka. 
He said that he has full knowledge of law as he had practiced as advocate. What Yedyurappa and Jagadish Shettar knew about the legal intricacies of Mahadayi River diversion project? He asked. 
Replying to a question, Mr Siddaramaiah said that the Government will not abolish the Committee constituted to study on giving separate religion status to Lingayats.
He said that no request to drop the constitution of the committee to study the feasibility of making recommendations for separate religion status for Lingayaths under State Minority Commission would be entertained.
He said that there has been a demand from Lingayaths and Veershaivas to give separate religion status to Lingayaths and already five representations were received. The Committee and consisting of the members from various walks of life will go through
the proposal thoroughly and will submit its report to him.
The Chief Minister also clarified that the committee has been carefully constituted choosing members who are away from politics.
There need not be any doubt about this committee.
Stating that he had no intention to divide any community or religion, he said that he has only been going through applications written to him. 
Referring to a statement of the Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde about BJP changing Constitutional provisions, he said that it would be ridiculous to hear from a Minister about such a statement which lacked minimum knowledge of Constitution, culture and tradition of this country.
He asked the media persons whether any person who has no knowledge of Indian constitution can change the constitution itself?
The Union Minister has limited the constitution to one particular religion which not acceptable. India is a country of many religions, culture and varied way of life on the basis of which constitution has been built. UNI
