Vijayawada, Dec 19: National Executive Member and MLC Somu Veerraju said that if the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) did not want alliance with the BJP, its President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should announce it in public.
Mr Veerraju alleged that the TDP leaders were fearing at the growth of BJP in the state.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that the TDP leaders were making comments humiliating the BJP leaders. Reports appear on the next day that Mr Naidu asked the leaders to maintain restraint. “When I responded to their comments, the TDP leaders was asking about my status in the BJP. But I do not want to make comment on their remarks” he said.
The BJP leader said the then Prime Minister A B Vajpayee trusted Mr Chandrababu Naidu and agreed to
have an alliance with TDP six months in advance of the election in 2004. However, the BJP suffered a debacle in that election and Mr Vajpayee had not recovered from the shock. The BJP MLC said that in 2013, Mr Chandrababu Naidu announced that aligning with the BJP in 2004 election was an historical blunder. But, when the BJP was taking steps to contest in 175 MLA and 25 MP seats in AP before 2014 elections, the TDP President itself came forward to have an alliance with the BJP.
He reminded that in 2009 election, the TDP went to the polls alone and lost in the hustings.
“We are trying to strengthen the BJP in AP but it didn't go down well with the TDP leaders as they are making adverse comments on the issue. The BJP leaders are not in a position to do any favour like allocating houses for the poor and granting social security pension, even though it was part of State government” he said. UNI
